Obviously to be the first guests would have been an honour but would bring a Brighton team eager to do well in their first game in their new home. BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION • The Manager – Gustavo Poyet please log in to view this image About the Hammers game. "I'm disappointed because we knew what West Ham were going to do. We were prepared and we talked about them, but we couldn't cope. They were always going to come at us and we knew that. We talked about what we could do to avoid that but we didn't do it. When you don't do your job you pay the price.” ” I hope that everyone learns from that, because I learned a lot. I tried my best and I would probably have made different decisions if I had the chance again, but I'll learn from that. We cannot throw away an absolutely fantastic season because of a few bad games. We need to finish well, especially at home.” • The Albion Gustavo Poyet says there are no injuries, except he must have forgotten Tommy Elphick and his achilles tendon injury. Brighton have no players suspended and the Hornets need to keep an eye on Ashley Barnes, Craig Mackail-Smith and Will Buckley who have all scored a lot ofgoals this season, although Craig Mackail Smith was only a substitute on Saturday and Will Buckley did not even reach the substitute seats. WATFORD • The Manager – Sean Dyche please log in to view this image “To come away with a 1-1 draw after going down quite early and then being reduced to 10 men in the second half, it again showed great resilience and organisation from the player. We then limited Hull to very few chances and at the end it looked a bit nervous for them in places.” “They were good balls in but we didn't take as much responsibility as we normally do today, we've been very solid at set pieces this year and we were slightly off it today but not enough to cause too many problems. We then went up the other end and scored pretty quickly and that shows great belief to go on the front foot and try and get a grip on the game.” “I felt we've been positive all season as we play to win and we made a positive move by bringing Chris Iwelumo on. • The Hornets Adrian Mariappa returned from his injury as a second half substitute against Hull City and got himself sent off so he is now suspended. Martin Taylor banged his head causing an eye injury and may miss the Brighton game. Other than that Stephen McGinn is making progress to a return to action and Ross Jenkins as well. Update on the Hornet's latest statistics Last time out v Hull City Tomasz Kuszczak Lloyd Doyley, Adrian Mariappa – cautioned 62 mÃn. and sent off 65 mÃn. for Martin Taylor – 45 mÃn., Nyron Nosworthy, Carl Dickinson Sean Murray, John Eustace (c), Prince Buaben, Jonathan Hogg, Chris Iwelumo for Joe Garner – 83 mÃn. Who will win? Current form Watford are now on a two match unbeaten run, so these are two draws. Only one defeat in the last ten matches with five wins and four draws make them one of the form teams behind Reading. Brighton are not doing as well now as earlier in the season. Three defeats in the last three matches and only two wins in the last ten has really messed the chances of a play off place for the hosts. Akureyri's Prediction: 0:2 After hard fought draws against Cardiff City and Hull City for Watford and defeats for Brighton at Burnley and West Ham the hosts will be eager to make amends but will be caught by Watford’s counter attacking game. There is a history The last match: Watford – Brighton 1:0 In a game where Brighton had a little more possession but failed to have a single shot on target a goal in the last 15 minutes from Troy Deeney saw the locals home for three points. Watford outscored Brighton in shorts on and off target by 7 and 8 to 0 and 5 managed one corner fewer and made more than two times the number of fouls and three cautions (Prince Buaben, then Craig Forsyth and finally Troy Deeney) to one (Mauricio Taricco). Further into the past: The American Express Community Stadium, please get a shorter name, has no history for Brighton and Watford, however the Goldstone Ground, the Albion’s old home and the Withdean Stadium did. The hosts have a very good set of results against the Watford team with 26 wins and 12 draws against 10 wins for the visitors, this includes a home win and a draw in FA Cup matches. The Seagulls have also a large goal total of 84 against 46. The best result was a 6:0 home win in April 1958, Watford managed a 1:4 win in May 1963. skál/skÃ¥l/cheers/salut Don't forget The Hornets Nest II. Travellers may want some information about Brighton.
Really hoping that Dale Bennett starts this one. Also, like others on here Im not keen on Bauben being played out of position, however, knowing the quality that Brighton have on the wings I think It would make sense to play him out wide. Think we will lose 2-0. They have a good home record, have just been ' hammered ' and are likely to make at least 6 changes. Not to mention they will also want to make up for losing to us earlier in the season. Bennett for Tiny. Iwelumo for Garner. Play Bauben RM as Vicente is likely to be playing LM. Maybe rest Murray and play a left footer (Forsyth) at LM as Buckley or Lua Lua will prob be playing RM.
Looks to be a difficult game with them coming out of a hammering yesterday. But I think we will put on another strong performance and sneak a draw - I'm going for 2-2. Cheers AK, another great 5* thread.
Cheers AK. thread ! I'd like to see Dyche mix the team up a bit. Brighton will want to get their last heavy defeat out of their system. I'd take a draw !
The question is whether we want to run scared of their wide threat, or go toe-to-toe with it. Personally I'd play Murray up against Buckley (Murray will do a lot more to slow Buckley down than vice versa) with Doyley behind, and Deeney on the other side against Noone with Hodson behind. I go for Hodson over Dickinson because if they switch flanks I think we should too.
You would play Murray at LM and Doyley at LB??? Two right footers down the left flank then. And you want our only goal scoring striker, to play RM???? Talk about square pegs in round holes!
Don't think that's quite what he's saying there - Hodson replacing Dickinson at LB so Murray/Doyley on the right is what it suggests to me. Not sure about Hodson & Deeney in those spots though - not what I'd advocate.
Great thread Ak, we're really going to miss these I'd bring Iwelumo on either for Garner, or as well as...and i'd play Hodson, not Dickinson. I think Murray is looking tired, so i'd get Forsyth off the bench at least..and play Bennett if Tiny is out (what choice do we have??). i'd give Whichelow a bit of a go...at some point! Hmm, that makes a team of at least 14 at any one time..sounds good to me
Nice one AK. If it helps they all call the stadium the Falmer Stadium or the AMEX. I think this will also be a very tight game, if I dont like to say this but i doubt we will get anything from it either I am going to say 2-0. Bennett will have to play as i cannot see Tiny recovering in time. I tried to get a pic of the war wound, but i did not manage. But put it this way, he had a lump the size of an egg on his right eye socket. He had it in a support bandage thing and it was red and had clearly been bleeding. Not pretty. But he was laughing and joking about it.
It's an eye injury apparently, rather than a head injury..it doesn't look like he'll make the game..Nos will be the only height at the back, and without Mapps we're going to struggle...but...i refuse to think we'll get beaten! lol
It looked like a head injury to me!! The lump was the same size as Dales against WH, it was massive!! But then again he doesnt do small things!!
yes, he had a head injury, but the injury that will keep him out will be an eye injury apparently...from the same injury lol
TBF Brighton are not a physical side and they keep it on the deck. No need for a player like Tiny in this game IMO.
true too, and with their brand new pitch, it should be easy for everyone to play the ball on the floor..the headball lately at home has been very poor to watch! So, Brighton is probably a good place to play him at...and since we don't have much choice, we're lucky! lol
