Slightly different - in an adrenaline filled environment most would do what Terry did. Terry himself didnt cheat, he just feigned confidence. If that influenced the ref's decision it is absolutely a slight on the ref's ability not on Terry.

  2. Terry has admitted that the ball never crossed the line!! What version of 'not cheating' does that apply to?
He knew a goal had not been scored yet states that there was nothing he could do about it!! Cheating or just Amoral - either way, hardly the actions of an England captain.......

Its no surprise we`ve been mugged by refereeing incompetence...... it happens to us all the time and its happened so many times now I`ve got used to it.

No doubt Atkinson will be counting the contents of his brown envelope at some stage.

He didnt cheat because he didnt cheat. No rule was directly broken, discretely or openly, by terry. It cant be compared to somebody willingly scoring a goal with his hand.

Yes he thought a goal hadnt been scored. Yes he suggested by way of celebration that a goal had been scored. And in doing so acted the same as about 99.9% of footballers would have in that situation. Rightly or wrongly. Im not defending it, just saying picking Terry out is unfair!

Hi Sweet fa. FIFA are currently testing Hawk-Eye's system and another system called GoalRef made by Germans (funnily enough). Hawk-Eye use cameras in the goal and a computer analysis method, GoalRef have a chip in the ball which is detected by a magnetic field. The idea being that if they pass the tests they will be rolled out for next season. Whether that does actually take place is another question however.

They say things even themselves out but I am yet to see it.

We have had such poor decisions this season ( against Stoke, Man U and today for example ) and I can't think of the favourable ones.

Also luck- we were lucky against Fulham who deserved something out of the game but how many games have we been the better team and not got what we deserved. I guess there was a reason we were all pessimistic before the game..

I don't blame Terry at all for this(isn't there reasons to hate him anyway?). Aside from the fact that there's not a player in the World that would go out of their way to tell the ref he thinks they've wrongly been awarded a goal, he's on the floor and has his back to the ball through some of the incident so I don't think he can say for sure and besides the ref was far better placed. Terry seemed to think that the ball cleared when it hit him, which kind of proves the point that he didn't see it properly.

As ever he was guilty of referee manipulation, just like Rio, when they know they've had a lucky decision they stay with the ref and order the opposition players away when they protest. What a nice guy he is, helping protect the ref from being unnecessarily berated by the opposition.

  9. Unfair? Really? You think those actions are laudable?
So, because others regard cheating is ok then that's all right then......
It may well happen like that, but that is not a state of play that I would personally want to accept from someone meant to be a role model.

No those actions are not laudable...

His team had been awarded a goal so he celebrated. Name one footballer, anywhere, who would take that opportunity to inform the ref that he was mistaken.

Many things Terry have done are justifiably criticised - I dont think this is one of them. And Im not entirely sure why out of a team of 11 who all probably didnt think it was a goal (he was asked a direct question and responded with ' i didnt think it was') it is Terry who is being condemned for it.

Just to clarify - I would love, really love, for football to be a sport where sportsmanship was apparent and evident, where players didnt dive, didnt try to get each other sent off, shout foul mouthed abuse at opponents, colleagues and officials alike.

But I dont see what Terry has done that justifies him personally being criticised for not telling the referee his team shouldnt have been awarded a goal.

I have to agree with YV.No player is going to advise the ref not to award a goal to his team. Atkinson is entirely to blame for that ludicrous decision. I hope he is held to account for it.

As mentioned elsewhere, Arshavin advised the ref not to give Arsenal a penalty - but soon fell into line...

I've been thinking for a couple of months now, about potential corruption in football.

I've never seen as many decision in football matches go they way they have, until this season. Now, every year there's always decisions that are wrong - it happens, we're all human and officials make mistakes.

However, this year, it's been on a whole new level; some decisions of which, have been totally unacceptable and completely ludicrous! some of these decisions have just made me begin to think that "corruption" has stepped up a gear. let's not forget we've seen it in cricket over the last couple of years!

there are too many bad decisions to name, for a lot of different clubs. I can't pin point all of them, but i'll name a few very recent ones that come to mind.

some of the diving we've seen - players have always "tried to win penalties", that's never changed... but this decisions this year have been awful. - ashley young's yesterday.

I'm pretty sure if my memory serves me correctly, that adebayor and defoe have had about 2 goals each disallowed for "offside" which were never offside. - that's cost us serious points this season.

Wigan's perfectly good goal against man united where De Gea was "impeded"... no... he didn't make any attempt for the ball. - but this was ok because wigan "still won". - would have been totally different if they'd lost, just like they did against chelsea. which brings me on to my next point...

Wigans defeat to chelsea because of 2 offside goals!! - slightly different for Wigan then, wasn't it? - disgraceful.
Fulham conceding a penalty to chelsea because of a foul by danny murphy... which according to the ref wasn't the foul by danny murphy and was in fact Kelly... who didn't actually touch the player (malouda, sturridge,??)
And now the goal against us yesterday.

how can team get four goals in the way they have over the space of 2 weeks? - it's lucky to get that sort of luck go your way... but in the way its happened to Chelsea, for me I'm questioning corruption in football now. - the decisions have been so inaccurate, it's off the scale. I'm pretty sceptical anyway, but it's just totally ridiculous. - has Mr Abramovich had to make alternative "moves" due to chelsea's threat for CL football, for some time this season? - some may say that's ridiculous, but it's amazing what goes on behind the scenes.

This makes me then ask the question... "will goal line technology ever actually come in to the game, or are the powers above preventing that from happening, as they know it'll have an affect on their corruption in football?"

There have been bad decisions long before Abramovich came along. I can understand that you lot are upset about our 2nd goal but that didn't cost you the game. You pulled a goal back quite soon after that goal and were in the ascendecy. However, we played a great 2nd half and you lot just crumbled. Your centre backs looked tired and your team in general lost discipline. We created chances and took them, something you failed to do when you where on top in the 1st half.
So if you want to console yourselves by banging on about the 2nd goal costing you the match, then carry on. But most neutrals watching the game will know the truth.

Agreed. There's been awful decisions for many many years, but over the entire season it's been worse than ever this year! it's the total and utter inaccuracy to a whole new level that makes me sceptical.

have to disagree about the second goal though, it was an absolute game changer. we should never have been 1-0 down at half time. - (just shear brilliance from Drogba.) but at 1-0, coming out for the 2nd half, it would have been totally different. we'd have been trying to get back into the game, you would have been trying to prevent it, whilst trying to secure a second. that could have lead to anything. but a decision like that, after just 3 mins of the 2nd half, when we havent had chance to get into any sort of rhythm, is a total game changer. it puts to be anything that's been spoken about athalf time, and changes tactics for the final 45 mins. - not to mention the players heads drop because they've been totally screwed. - had that not have happened, perhaps we wouldn't have crumbled. don't see how that "didn't cost us the game", to be honest.

but hey ho, congratulations on the win; 2 stunning goals that could be goal of the season contenders.

  18. What if he was sure it crossed the line? - from his angle it looked very much like the ball did cross the line.

Atkinson took a guess, which is something he is not allowed to do by the rules.
Refs have given decisions before without even seeing the incident but rather heard the fans and players reactions.

He's obviously a poor ref but an unbiased one which is why Fergie hates him, unlike webb who'll give him 2 non pens at the bridge when he's 3 0 down.
