On Not606. On the cafe, a lot of users said it was a dive and i gave you specific quotes to backup my claim.

I've watched the replay numerous times (because someone sent me a .gif of it and I'm obsessed with United) and it's clear that Young is the one who initiates contact. He places his right foot where it wouldn't naturally fall so as to make contact with Clark's left (and even then it's minimal.) Then, for good measure, he draws his left leg through, catches Clark again and takes a tumble.

So yes, 'there is contact', but it's all on Young's part. Clark barely attempted a challenge and was actually attempting to withdraw himself from it.

I use redcafe aswell and there were many saying it was a penalty.

I was referring to on here though in the above comment.

Definately not a penalty. Instead of running round the defender Young kept running straight into him.

Hard one for the ref to call though.

Yes he was attempting to withdraw himself from it, because he realised, oh **** this was a bad idea.

I have seen the gig and its clear that the Villa player catches Youngs foot.

Lets not forget the fact we should of had more than the one penalty and Given shouldnt of finished the game.

No need to discuss these though as neither benefited United.

We didnt need any help today and even the refs attempts to hinder us failed.

When did those penalty shouts happen though? 6 minutes in a gift sets the pattern for the game.

Having said that Villa never had a prayer, but still.

Doesnt matter. These things are only a big deal when it benefits United. Whether at 0-0 or if we are losing/winning 3-0 or more.

It does matter because a penalty at 0v0 at the start of the game changes the shape of the game and the momentum.

Having one at 77 mintures when you're 3-0 doesn't the games already dead.

I do agree a penalty is still a penalty though - which I think is where you're going with this?

No, Young catches his foot. Clark is not moving towards Young, therefore the only way contact is made is if Young is moving towards him.

If you want to say 'there was contact, it wasn't a dive' then fine, but you have to admit all the contact was initiated by Young. He could've simply gone straight past the guy. The fact he didn't proves he was looking for it.

When was the last time utd could argue the refs decisions turned the game against them

When was the last time utd benefited from the ref/lines decisions?

And yes, UIR, it does matter. The first goal is the most important in any game. You got the first goal against QPR from exactly the same scenario.
3-0 up? Fine, the game was already won. At 0-0, regardless of possession stats etc. the game is literally anyone's.

Like the difference between winning 6-0 and 3-0 isn't too great. Once the opposition have let 3 past and the clock has run down, who gives a ****? See yourselves versus City or Norwich yesterday for examples. In fact your 4th today was a good example. Alan Hutton couldn't be arsed.

Yep. While you are correct that it can change a game at 0-0 if its at the start of the game you can also factor in the other team still has plenty of time to rectify it and score themselves. Early goals dont mean you win the game.

Plus even at 3-0 with 13 minutes to go, if United get a penalty and score you wouldnt bet against another 2 goals. Some teams seem to think that going behind means game over. Poor attitude and much worse for the game than diving imo.

I will agree he may of been looking for it. Whether thats right or wrong is for another discussion. Its pushing the rules but its within the rules. The defender shouldnt be doing what he did. Same against QPR last week. Its poor defending first, soft penalty ( but a penalty none the less ) second.

Hum. I still think a gift after 5 mins is a lot more than one after 75mins.

It would be great if we could just get video in so we didn't have to keep debating this tedious subject where none of us will agree.

Sounds like giving up to me. United dont do that. Against City that was our downfall.

Wigan midweek. Penalty not given and Wigans goal was the result of a corner that shouldnt of been given.

    Wigan midweek. Goal wrongfully disallowed.

depends on the score. 0-0 after 5 mins means if you get a 'gift' you have 85 minutes to score.

After 75 mins if the score is 0-0 or even 1-0/2-0 then you can suddenly get the momentum and push for a winner or equaliser.

You are fecking joking right, you are claiming the officials cost you in the wigan game when they disallowed a perfectly good wigan goal and you should have been down to ten men. Amazing, but yep sure enough you swallow fergies nonsense hook, line and sinker.

A little aside from the discussion....

Theres a fair chance all the major English silverware will be the talk of this thread during the summer.

Even when Liverpool might not be having the best season in the league and United have been awful in the cups, we are showing why we are the 2 biggest clubs in the country by a mile*

*If we both do our jobs in the coming weeks.
