is forgivable. Deciding a ball is over the line when you cant possibly tell isnt. I started this season as an avid anti technologalite (practicalities, flow of the game etc). I am slowly being turned round game by game. But, sorry to Martin Atkinson - just a very bad call.
Awful. That's about 5 goals that they've been given against us by poor decisions in the last couple of seasons. It's ridiculous.
Although I do find the tv reporters annoying..... Everybody knows it wasnt a goal, stop fishing for emotionally charged players' responses to it........ Chelsea clearly deserved to win. Spurs recovered well after the 'goal', then Chelsea finished extremely well!
Chelsea didn't deserve to win because the goal utterly changed the game. We were chasing a goal that shouldn't have been given, they just started keeping possession at all costs and we got stretched and caught out at the back. We keep hearing this swings and roundabouts bollocks where all this is supposed to even itself out, but I'm yet to see it. Utter ****e.
I understand your frustration, but (to Spurs' credit) you scored very shortly after. It could be argued that Chelsea's 'goal' was the catalyst for Spurs' goal. And, after your goal you were in the ascendancy but still got turned over. Whilst they were very lucky to be awarded the second goal - I dont think they were lucky to win the game overall.
I've always backed goal line technology(the other stuff not so much) but it's basic, basic stuff to see that that hasn't crossed the line. Much like the Ivanovic goal against Wigan, it's a black and white decision if he's seen it. I don't think he did see it and much like the decision to rule out our goal against us, Atkinson's based his decision on the player reactions. A few Chelsea players turn around with their arms in the air which sways him, awful refereeing.
I don't blame us losing on that decision but it was an unforgivable decision and was a factor in our loss. Other factors were not taking the lead in the first half, when we were the better team, defending like idiots, some clinical finishes from Chelsea and a little bit of poor luck at times.
Agreed - I dont like the stick referees get but they really dont help themselves sometimes. I dont want to repeat myself but I would have so much more sympathy with a referee who doesnt see a ball has crossed the line (even re: lampard in south africa) and campaing for giving them the help they appear to quite badly need - but to guess a ball has crossed a line with no real view and no cue from the assistant is just poor officiating.
Swings and roundabouts. Remember that time that we were given a goal that didn't cross the line? Er, no. Me neither.
To be fair to him, he's not actually allowed to, one way or the other. He probably wouldn't want to anyway, but it's out of his hands.
it should be mandatory that they do...i can bet my bottom dollar they would think twice before making controversial decisions then PNP....it helps when you know in life that even if you mess up...nobody will question you....that breeds complacency.
These things don't seem to have balanced out this season for sure - and consistently against the Chavs. Yes, our defending was not the best after we had recovered to 1-2 but it's difficult to assess what impact that decision would have had. Two things for me however: 1. Harry was again found wanting tactically and 2. Officials must be more accountable. A ref cannot / must not give a decision if he is not sure. And if he was sure about that one then he shouldn't be a referee. Simple. This will probably be overlooked because of the relative capitulation to 1-5 and for that we've only got ourselves to blame.
Yet it's happened twice to us in two seasons against the same team and I can't ever remember us benefiting from one of those decisions. We've also been screwed by the opposite decision, where a perfectly good goal hasn't been given because the ref wasn't sure that the ball was miles over the line.
There is no argument at all against a hawk eye censor based system which will instantly tell a ref whether the ball has crossed the line or not. My understanding was that as of yet there is no 100% fool proof system which can perform in such a way on a football pitch. If there is, and it hasnt been used yet, then that is criminal..
Just think: For 26 years people have called Diego Maradona the lowest of the low for celebrating after scoring with his hand, which made the referee's mind up for him. Today, John Terry was celebrating when the ball hadn't crossed the line - making the referee's mind up for him.
He didn't though Croydon, Mata did. Terry doesn't celebrate until after the decision's been given and even then he looks a bit bewildered. He does talk to the ref on the way back to the centre circle, rather dishonestly.
