Pleased to say I backed the winner at 25/1 thus missing out on the best price of 33/1. William Hill's here I come.

Grabbed it with a nice 45/1 on Betfair (or 46s, if you like).

Aye, a right shame that. Cracking horse too.

I still have no idea why they bother to run Gold Cup winners in the Housewives' Handicap.

Sorry can't agree that this race is wrong. In life accidents happen and no matter how much you try to ensure it doesn't happen it still does.
People die running the charity marathon races but you don't hear people asking for that to be stopped, same goes for motor racing, mountaineering etc etc etc. Race horses are some of the best looked after animals you will ever find and their owners would do anything for them. If a horse didn't want to jump a fence it wouldn't. I watched 2 races yesterday where jockeys fell off early in the race, yet the horses carried on for a further 2 miles jumping numerous fences all by themselves. These tracks have numerous places where a horse can run off the race track yet they continued to the end.
I am all for making races as safe as possible but nothing in life is 100% safe.

The race is starting to look and feel outdated lads. Too many horses are dying, another three went today and it looks like two more might have had their careers ended. The field is too big and the fences too high. It's great for our sport to get exposure and for people to get a taste of it but at what cost? As someone who follows racing daily (often without a single bet) I look forward to the likes of Cheltenham, Aintree day 1 and 2 ect much more than this race. This is a race for the once a year punters, the public and the bookies. Horses dying is a horrible part of this sport but too many go in the National for it to be enjoyable and a lot of those who don't follow this sport really don't care about the loss of life. Every year I hate this race more and more - this isn't even a top level race yet people think of it as the pinnacle of national hunt (jumps) racing. This race needs to be changed. I was delighted and gutted that the hours and hours spent studying this race got me the 2nd placed horse but it all pales into insignifance when you realize what has been lost.

Seeing as this is worth over 1/2 million pounds I would think it is a top level race.

It's worth a lot of money yes but it's a grade 3 handicap. Give me the King George, Gold Cup ect over the Grand National anyday of the week.

The (enormous) difference between horse racing and charity marathons is that people have a choice in whether they run marathons or not. Horses don't.
Horse racing is just a widely accepted form of animal exploitation and cruelty.

Do you eat bugers? I'm fairly certain the burgers don't have a choice.

I'd risk a few fences if I was a horse rather than be sold to France for meat.
