I am ****ting a brick about this now , I woke up with a fright , will we won't we , Jesus just hurry it up .
Morning, just want that win tucked under our belt on Tuesday. Win is all that matters, though a couple of goals on GD would be useful. When will this torture end? Couldn't bear play offs....not where you want to be if you are sliding. Win on Tuesday and we'll all feel better....until Saturday. Why, why couldn't we get this sorted, so we could all lie back and enjoy the ride.
Especially for my non-footballing friend who is visiting and will have to live through it with me. Don't you hate it when people just don't understand. I warned her and she just laughed....laughed!! If we lose, she'll have to watch her food on Wednesday.
Agreed Fran. Although I have also found that it can be bad with people who do understand, because then you just end up winding one another up!
Luckily I am off work, so hope we are in a better position before I run the gauntlet of Reading and Pompey supporters. Win Tuesday and Saturday and life will be easier.
The feelings really mirror those of 2005 when we got relegated. The 2nd guessing all other clubs results, getting a good result and others going for us only for the complete opposite the following round of matches. We got a great win against Palace and then West Ham were 3-1 down against Brum and I was thinking yes! thats it we are up. After yesterdays results I was reallly worrying, just wishing the season would end now and seeing us throw it all away as it goes on. This morning I am more positive again. We should really get 9 points from the last games which will be fine. I worte an article the other week in which I said that Saints just don't do boring season's, we are always fighting for something at the end which causes the nerves to get a pounding everytime. Should be used to it by now but I guess its what being a Saints fan is. No matter how much the club has changed it is still Southampton FC and as much as our history and heritage is part of the club, it would seem that doing things the hard way and giving fans heart failure towards the end of each season is part of the club too.
Just watched the highlights on Player. Actually, I had forgotten just how many chances we had and if we play like that in the last three we are going to score goals. Defence obviously was an issue for the goals conceded, but I feel less jittery for watching it. It's Sunday, so nothng will happen today. Just enjoy the sunshine and perhaps fret a little on Tuesday. It will be alright.
Middlesbrough have Donny there next game , that's a banker , so they will really want a result against us .
No bankers this season. And anyway, M'boro would want to win against us whatever happens. It's bad enough worrying about our results and Reading and WHU's...no need to add anything else into the mix. Remember the words of our master.
To a point I agree , I would if liked him to of actually stated our defence was absolute ****e on Friday , this in turn would lead me to believe they got a rocket up their arse .
Not Nigel's style and, if he did, he'd never state it in public. If he deals with it, why should it matter to us that he's not loose lipped like some managers.
Cloudy , Shankly , Revie all spoke their minds to their players and the press , something that's sadly missing in this softer game now .
But it's a matter of style. Adkins believes in supporting his players and getting the best out of them. He is a respected man who is part of the team. Some managers are authority figures. You can't be what you are not. I believe there was one game earlier in the season where Adkins did go ballistic at them (by his standards) and it worked because it was out of character so they got the point. Let's not forget that Adkins method has kept us up there all season (and hopefully to the end) when there were teams with 'better' players out there underperforming. Bossing people about doesn't always work. I have been in a job which relied on cooperation to maintain staffing levels. The manager who was good to us and did what he could was respected, when he said no we knew he meant it, and when he wanted volunteers, he got them. Meanwhile, the boss who was authoritarian and put you on reports for no reason at all got minimal cooperation.
I am a bit old school , I hate all this pc bollocks , if you are ****e you are ****e , you may not like it but you know where you stand .
They probably do, in training. But by not having a go in public, it gives the media nothing to work with or feed off/pick holes in. Adkins tells them what he thinks of them in training. It puts on a United front and can sometimes be better for the players confidence. Just think how many times you have seen Big Sam criticising players or fans in the papers this season.
The only thing to complain about is that a player doesn't give his all...if he's not good enough, that's the managers call. Some of our players may not be up to our standards, but not one of them is ****e.
