    Two dead horses.

Let's think about them for a minute or two, and FOOK OFF to the tweedy, flat-capped, thoughtless scum.

I probably sound like an idiot here but what exactly happens for all of these horses to die?

Do they fall over the jumps or die of exhaustion or something?

I think Synchronised might have been withdrawn if he wasn't such a high-profile horse, he was upset before the start, took a lot of shine away from the race when I heard he'd died. I kind of agree with the posh buggers argument against horse-racing but the fact is these animals are bred to race not to potter around in a field, and the racing industry employs a lot of people.

Usually its broken legs. Horses front legs are quite weak, their back legs and arse is where all the power comes from. So when they land all the impetus and weight are on the front. Horses legs, i think, tend to shatter and cant be repaired.

Its a strange fact/coincidence that out two most famous races, the Derby and the National are sh1t for horses. They dont die in the Derby but as a lot of the course is downhill, all the stress, and the speed they are going, is placed on the front legs. A lot go lame or never race again after the Derby. Its better for horses to run up hill.

If I'd had a gun after the Brave's Derby i would have shot Starkey!! Did i mention it cost me a lot of money. Still I'm over it now...................

How many animals get squished on the roads each year, nobody talks about that do they but am guessing it is quite a lot more than horses on the racetrack.

Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall scoops them up for sandwiches.

I think it gets mentioned with the National as it is SO high profile. One of the biggest sporting events in our nation's calendar, lots of champagne, loads of money changing hands. Supertan girls stumbling about, it's a big fun festival.

The dead horses kind of get brushed under the carpet 'cos no one wants to talk about them when they're counting their winnings, or trying to snake into some sozzled tart on the concourse. To my mind, this course in particular, is cruel. Otherwise horses wouldn't die every year.

Mind you, I can't say owt 'cos I was all over the sweepstake yesterday. I don't even like horse racing or betting.

Broken limbs going over the hurdles, i expect.

The owners need them to race rather than sit in the stables heeling. That's how they make their money afterall.

It must take them along time to trian them to obey the jockey and if they get injured, to heel up. So it's probably the easy option.

But surely they can retire it and ship it off to a farm or sanctuary or something to live out its days. Granted I know next to nothing about the sport but it seems a waste.

Can't stomach national hunt racing now - too many casualties - its stopped being a sport as far as I'm concerned.
But for the info of Thatcher's Coffin (great name by the way!) its far less elitist than the flat.

I don't worry too much about the horses, but it just annoys me the idea that all these posh people gather in their daft hats and pretend to care about sport. The whole concept of horse racing annoys me to be honest. There are plenty of less annoying sports for everyone to watch but no they need a special exclusiove one so they can all compare poshness and laugh about the common scum.

Have you actually ever been to a race meeting?? at most meetings (Ascot etc excluded) probably a bigger social mix than at many other sports - honestly!

You really shouldnt make daft statements about it if you dont know and have never been to a meeting.
