Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is adamant that owner Mike Ashley will release funds to allow the club to strengthen in the summer.

Liverpool paid £35m to sign Andy Carroll on the final day of the January transfer window, a sum Pardew hopes can swell his summer coffers.

"Mike Ashley has made that commitment that the money will go back into the club," Pardew told BBC Newcastle.

"I'm sure 100% that he will and it's my challenge to spend the money wisely."

"I didn't get chance to replace him really, we made a few calls and were getting responses that were comical in terms of figures coming back, so we couldn't waste the money in terms of paying an over-inflated price for someone who wasn't as good as Andy.

"The most important thing from that deal was that we got over the line, because then we get the opportunity to spend the money to strengthen the team overall."

"In terms of the transfers, when I came in here, I said: 'Look, you've obviously got a scouting system here, but the rubber stamp has to come from me.'

"If you're going to mould a team, then you have to have that assurance, and they gave me that assurance.

"In terms of the scouting team I've got, I've got Graham Carr here who was the main instigator in Cheick Tiote arriving, and Ben Arfa, so I think I've got to take good advice from him.

"We've been working together, in this last period of three or four weeks, so that we target and get the right sort of player.

"Unfortunately it's going to seem slightly shallow until we get to the summer and we get one or two names in. But then hopefully by the time we get to pre-season next year, we'll all be excited looking forward to the new campaign."

Is anyone else starting to worry a little bit? I'm not 100% confident that we will get £35m . Hope I'm proved wrong though.:emoticon-0101-sadsm

  2. Well, i doubt we'll get a solid figuire of 35 mil, but i believe Pardew and i think we'll get enough money to buy the amount of quality we need.

Hang on a mo this is Ashley we are talking about here. Pardew can say what he likes and often does!! but Mike Ashley is not to be trusted in any shape or form so I wouldn't be holding your breath on this warchest. Call me cynical but is it not the time when they are trying to flog season tickets as well, I gave up mine 2 yrs ago after 30 years so it is up to people to decide for themselves I think I would be inclined to wait and see what division we were in before stumping up the cash. Pardew = Mike Ashley's puppet. Fair play tho if fans want to believe what Pardews is saying we will all see in the summer.

Part of my fears about publically confirming a 'warchest' is that other clubs will allow players to leave at inflated prices or drive the fee to those levels.

Yes. Carroll went for £35million but confirming we will spend a largish sum of that will mean clubs hold out until the asking price is over inflated.

Last year we said nothing about sums available and managed to get some real bargains in Tiote and Ben Arfa.

Just worried thie confirmation of sums to spend may bite us in the summer.

Carr must know the going prices so hopefully the club stick to their guns on it.

Pardew is hardly going to go on and slate Ashley off and say we have no money because he'll end up in trouble or the fans will be feeling disappointed.

I don't believe a single word of it.

This is the same Alan Pardew who said again and again that Andy Carroll wouldn't be sold in the first place. The same AP that said there is no point in selling players like Nolan or Carroll otherwise you will never get anywhere.

Frankly i'm surprised that anybody who has been supporting Newcastle United since Ashley turned up has the slightest reason to believe a single word that comes out of the club.

Another strange point is that Pardew states: "...we couldn't waste the money in terms of paying an over-inflated price for someone who wasn't as good as Andy"

Well no, quite, but why would you even be making enquiries about players who aren't as good as Andy Carroll? The whole club is a joke these days and that's the fault of Mike Ashley, Derek Llambias and now Alan Pardew who is nothing more than a hand puppet for the fat man.

    Sad, sad days.

1). For the 1000th god damn time, CARROLL HANDED IN A TRANSFER REQUEST. If a player wants to leave, you can't just force him to stay.

2). You may have to make enquiries about players who aren't as good because you can't expect to spend all the money for one amazing striker. It would be stupid. We might end up with someone slightly less prolific at goalscoring (who may improve in time), but at least we would have money left over for other players.

Honestly, nothing has happened since Pards took over which I've seen as a lie or deceptive.

:emoticon-0159-music Be sure it's true when you say what you do Alan Pardew,
    It's a sin to tell a lie.

Am I the only one getting sick and tired of words coming out of Pardews mouth?
He doesn't have to keeping banging on about things, especially if we get the £35mill in the team, all it will do(if hes not bullshitting) is remind teams yet again we have a war chest.

Chappaz is a buffoon unfortunately in this day and age and in spite of the evidence from day 1 you will always have people defend the indefensible. Mike Ashley has not will not and has no interest from NUFC other than to run us as he runs his tat shops ie maximum profit for cheapest outlay. He has continually and still does gamble on his hunches and we could still have the same conversation next summer, following Jan etc the day we were landed with this sad individual was arguably the worst ever day for our club and until he goes we will continue to drift as nonenties with our only ambition to match the likes of Bolton and Wigan despite our crowds being 4 times higher. Pardew himself basically compared our ambitions to being like that of Birmingham and West Ham and trying to win a cup no long term aim to even get nnywhere near the top 6.

Chris Hughton was a stright-arrow doing a pretty good job for you lot and Ashley replaced him with an average-at-best manager... why? Because they're old gambling pals and Ashley knows he can count on him to spout Ashley party-line.

Pardew is a fairly bland, non-controversial figure who's perfect to act as a buffer while Ashley tries to recover as much of his money before moving on.

An indication of things to come is probably what we're seeing with Barton; on the pitch he has been first rate for you this season and his reward is to have his wages cut? Given that his stock is probably at its highest I cannot see him being willing to stick around without trying to cash in on his great performaces. The same could be true of a few of your decent players.

It looks to me as if Ashley is going to financially control your team into bottom dwellers, or worse Championship fodder. You've had a season that counfounded the expectations of many but you need to rienforce success not cut back and do it on the cheap. We had the same thing for years under Murray.

So I'm expecting a bunch of "5-1" comments from some of you but I know the intelligent fans amongst you must be bricking it.
