I'd say probably Harrogate, York or Leeds, but there's some nice bits of Sheffield too.

Yark without a doubt although Helmsley is a great place, if in the middle of nowhere!

If there's bits of Leeds you don't like, there'll certainly be bits of Hull, Sheffield and Donny you don't like. Never been to Beverley, does it actually have a big centre or is it just a small market town type thing?

Hull. But having said that I am a bit biased ;)

Seriously though the train station in Leeds is one of the worst I've ever been too.

Looks a nice enough place but my personal preference is to be only a short distance from shopping and services. I'm guessing that Beverley residents have to schlep to Leeds, York or Hull if they need stuff they can't get in their limited town centre.

How come? Never had a problem with it myself, big and efficient.

Pretty much everything you need is here. A lot of people do go to Hull, and a fair few go to Leeds for a night out or to York to go shopping. I think that's more down to wanting a change of scenery than it is to necessity though if I'm being honest.

    Those bloody ticket machines. <laugh>

They do look a bit frantic. I tend to book in advance though so I don't get caught up!

They're spreading everywhere, and the problem isn't the machines, it's the pricks who are told on the train to have their tickets ready then get surprised when they have to have their ticket ready and spend ages looking for it while they're blocking the exit for everybody else.

You're right about wanting a change from the norm. Going to Keys, Angel, Beaver and Green Dragon etc most weekends is quite dull. Also unless it's Market Day there's hardly any shops that do it for me; it's all old women's clothes shops, coffee shops or charity shops. All the electronics places have closed down and i think it's crying out for a music store. And that won't happen. Thank god City occupies my weekends.

Good parts- the Westwood is a nice place for a scenic walk and the horse races when it's on.

Where abouts you live in Bev, White Rose? I'm in Swinemoor.

Not far from the Grammar School. Used to live near Focus actually, went through Swinemoor to get to college.

I get what you mean about the granny shops too, but that's to be expected when the town starts to fill with pensioners from Darn Sarf. <laugh> It's a pain in the arse getting to Hull to go to HMV, etc.

Oh come on I'm from Hull and love the place, Sheffield aint bad and Leeds is ok, but how can you not love York?
I have been around the world and people asked me what city in Yorkshire should I visit if I only went to one place.
My answer is always York that place is beautifull it has everything, castles, roman walls,Railway museum, old streets (shambles)Viking center
York is one of the most interesting places to visit in the world let alone Yorkshire not really a contest

Jorvik is just a large scale Beverley - a bit too far a step for me.
