Ok, i may be being thick here, but why is everyone banging on about it being a "great performance"? It doesnt matter if we play a team off the park if we still lose. Points are all that matters not performances. At the end of the season, when we dont go up, what use is it saying "well we played the better football/put in a great performance" because that wont matter. I would rather play ****e and at least win. Besides I dont think we even played that well last night
I agree that its better to be rubbish and win at this stage of the season, but I think most people would feel a damn sight worse this morning if we hadn't at least played well. After an overnight sleep, I doubt Adkins is laying into the team this morning. He and they must be positive going into Tuesday's game.
Im sorry but do you even believe that? So every time any team has lost they deserved to, you dont believe that some things are outside of a teams controll that sometimes freak results happen against the performances of the teams. Yes we lost but the fact is play like that 100 times and we'd win 95 atleast of the games. Your basically saying that no matter the match its never acceptable to loose. well you know sometimes teams loose even the very greatest teams loose its part of the game but if you play well for a whole season(like yesterday) then youll win more than you loose. the performance was good two mistakes during normal time and a very wastefull performance infront of goal were all that seperated yesterday from a demolition.
There was a bloke in 39, between 18-22 that was crying at the end of the game. Needless to say i compounded his emotions with further necessary bullying as did 15/20 others. What a cock, it's only football ffs.
I think i am going to have to leave this board till tuesday night when another win is ours. Its draining listening to how negative you all are! WE ARE SIX POINTS CLEAR OF SECOND! Your all spoilt supporters. if we go up dont know how half of you will survive
Posted a thread on here a few weeks back reminding people that every team has one of these days. We'll be OK. No-one panic. If we lose the next 3 games we don't deserve to go up. But we won't. Reading have got the smash and grab down to a fine art. West Ham played well against them but the fact is now they have beaten some very good teams in this amazing run. It's no fluke, and good luck to them. We will go up with them. End of.
@tbd Not every time a team has lost no, but that for me is when there are dodgy ref decisions/freak goals etc. Last night that wasnt the case. We lost and playing well is all but irrelevant in my opinion. It matters not, that saints played well. Scoring more goals than the other team is what matters. Most on here seem to be under the impression that reading fluked it. They didnt. They were better than us, and it annoys me that we've thrown away the title.
Yep well said fair enough be pissed when we lose but to say the players who have taken us to this posistion arnt fit to play is just ridicolous if you ask me. I wonder and im not having a go at anyone hear because I know not everyone can make it to every game. But from what ive seen from my mates the ones who go the least seam to be more negative maybe going every week helps bring abit of perspective.
All three of their goals were unstoppable! Preventable maybe - but no way we could have kept them out once ball had left their foot (or head).
I haven't bothered to read through all of these posts - like Joe, I prefer to stay away from the internet for a bit, after we've lost. Too many people over-reacting - so apologies if I'm about to repeat what someone else has said. I great point was made to me whilst I was walking back to the car last night. We only effectively dropped one point last night. ONE! Is this seriously anyone on here who would not have taken a point last night (though I'm not including that select group of "fans" that we have - those people who are along the same sort of lines of that Leeds "fan" who started a thread on here last night)? I'd have snatched your hand off for a point, and I've always said that. So the fact that we've lost, really does only mean that we're just one point worse off than where I wanted to be. I've never, ever, ever understand why so many of us have been so hung up on the title. And amazingly, that it includes some of the really decent, down to earth, friendly posters on here. Who cares if it's first or second, who cares! Both get you automatic promotion. Please don't anyone tell me that you'd be disappointed to finish 2nd this season. We were brilliant last night, The best we've played at home for a long, long time. But we lost, and more than that, we conceded three goals. Who was the last side to score three goals at St Marys? (Bristol Rovers in the league, Pompey in the cup, I think). And for that, you have to praise. I'm confident that we'd have beaten any of the other 22 sides last season with that performance, but it wasn't good enough to beat Reading. That's not our fault, that's well done Reading. Blackpool, West Ham, Leeds, Brighton, Saints. 15 points out of 15. Sensational. They deserve automatic promotion, they deserve the title. If our players are at all deflated after last night - and I'm sure they are - all Nigel has to do is stick up a list of Reading's results in the past three months (and especially the last three weeks), and tell them that that is why they lost, not because they played badly. PS. Come on Brighton!
Most ridiculous comments on another thread are the ones calling for a shake-up of the team, and dropping 4 or 5 players for the final three games!
OK ill give you that, it wasnt fluke goals or bad decisions. Of course you are right at the end of the day this match will say 3-1 reading end of. However my point is that yes playing well didnt give us the points in this game but it will in most games and hence based on the performance there is no need for panic. Reading didnt fluke it all their goals were well taken however how many times does a team take every oppourtunity it has, not many in my opinion. Yes give reading credit because thats what wins you games but at the end of the day my point was that the performance was good enough. Had reading been less ridicolously clinical and us abit more so and we would have won and I fully expect that to happen against peterborough.
FFS the negativity on here is draining, and the main reason i come on here less and less nowadays. We are within spitting distance of back to back promotions. It is still in our own hands. Reading have taken a massive step towards auto promotion, and possibly the title, but we are still in with a chance as well. West ham are in the biggest fit of the wobbles since A Mr Wobble shaped jelly was placed on top of a badly installed spin drier placed on a wobbly floor board with a big giant shaking it with both hands. There is only one team in this division who would not swap positions with us in the blink of an eye. WE WILL STILL GO UP IN THE AUTOS, PROBABLY AS CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!
Totally agree with you about Reading not fluking it last night. But as I've already said, I just don't get why you or anyone else is annoyed that we've thrown the title. If we end up throwing 2nd place away, and then end up losing in the play-offs as well, then by all means be as annoyed as you want. You'll have every right to be, and I would be too. But throwing the title away? Who cares. Promotion is promotion.
In the games I have watched that we've won, the opposition always had one or two chances to score but lacked Reading's composure. I have often said this season to people at work who praise Saints that we can always be beaten because we play 'we'll score one more than you football.' It's our strength and weakness...we can't change to an ultra-defensive side without losing the entertaining stuff that we love. Adkins has built (is building) a team that plays flowing football...we are not a Leeds united or an Arsenal from their 1.0 days.
Can LincolnSaint be barred for a short while to prevent his depressing negativity from bringing everyone else down? We've won 4 of the last 5 away from home (I think?) so no reason why we can't get wins from the next 2 away games. Maybe the pressure of the home crowd is getting to the players? Either way, we won at Leeds without deserving it among a few other results we perhaps got lucky on. Not gonna let this result ruin my lives like a few people (e.g. that crying man in the ground...HAHA what a wimp!!!)
Fair point tbd. It wasnt just last night which pissed me off i think its the fact we now have a massive fight on our hands for second place, and think that we have been quite poor in our last 4 games. Ok we beat palace, but the other results make me believe we bottled it.
