He's no Koren and he won't influence many matches but he's good to have here as back up.

His snail pace build up play is good for keeping possession, particularly if we're winning and trying to grind out the result, keeping the ball is always important, but if we're chasing it we need him to play with more urgency. That's something he needs to learn. That and pass with his right foot occassionally. His shooting can be terrific- Ipswich in the cup for instance.

The right foot thing, that's another one that doesn't make sense. Andy Dawson uses his right foot a lot less and he consistently slows attacks down unecessarily because he daren't use it but nobody says anything about that. Cairney just gets the ball and makes something happen, it doesn't affect him whether he uses his right foot or not and as Chazz seems to be suggesting; if his best foot is 10 times better than anyone else's then who gives a **** about the one he doesn't use?

Agree with the Dawson comparison.. but this reminds me with the situation regarding Cairney being randomly targeted for sideways passing despite the rest of the team being guilty of the same crime. Personally I don't recall Evans, McKenna, Garcia, King, Hobbs, Rosenior, Simpson, Cullen or McLean doing anything magnificent with their left foot either.

difference between cairney and dawson is the roles they are selected for, cairney is selected as a creative midfielder, a big part of his role is to get attacks going quickly.
not saying dawson shouldnt try his best either, but its like a striker scoring no goals in 20, then defending him by saying well dawson hasnt scored in those 20 either...

Sadly thats true and i agree with you. But and its a biggish BUT....little by little i am seeing a sea change in TC. His 2nd half performance @ Palace, his last 2 performances have been very good and shows us what he can do. I wonder if the penny has finally dropped and NB has finally got to him ? Either way TC is doing much better but needs to keep it going. We have a player here IF he does as he is told and not as he thinks he should do. Just IMO like.

Maybe about time that NB made all the players train one day a week ONLY USING THERE OTHER FOOT.!!!
How a pro-footballer cannot use his other foot on the money they earn is beyond me.!!!

I agree that Cairney should be more comfortable using his right foot. However, saying a pro footballer should be as good with his weaker foot is like saying an author should be able to write a book with their non-writing hand.

I agree with that tbh. All players should be able to use both feet at least to a point. When you're playing as a kid it's regularly used as an excuse "That was my left foot." as if that makes it okay. It's the same as anything else, plenty of practice will make it as good as your better foot.

NB said something in the media the other day about left-footed players in particular being one-footed which makes sense considering the likes of Dawson, Cairney, etc.

Nobody is asking for him to be as good with both feet. We're just expecting him to be able to take a touch with his right foot, rather than having a panic attack about the idea that makes him lose us time while he gets in position to use his left. It's a lot quicker to move the ball with one foot onto the other than it is to completely reposition yourself and still need to take a controlling touch. Dawson doesn't tend to get mentioned due to both the position he's playing in and the fact he can actually take a touch on his right, and does quite often do so when passes are on that side of him.

If you watch his goal against Ipswich this season his first two touches are with his right to get into position to shoot.

I think it stands out more because he tries not to use his right foot, if he was a right footer not using his left I don't think it would be mentioned half as much.
