I don't think I've got much of an accent either, but my mrs always takes the piss and asks me to say "sofa" (or surfa).

I call it a settee now

Bradford is a weird accent - why do they pronounce their ds as ts? ie Bratfud (only the first d, oddly), Putsey, Huddersfelt (only the end d, oddly again). I worked there for years and it's a truly weird one.

    You mean never?

Seriously it pisses me off how everyone on telly is either ridiculously southern or irritatingly Northern Irish like Eamonn Holmes or Colin Murray, pronouncing words like 'Town' as 'Toyn'. How come they can be on telly but northerners can't?

I am not a great fan of my accent and try Professionally to drop it as much as I can, however, by far the worst (wet) accent in the UK is the Midlands(Nottingham, Derby, Leicester) 'Me-Ducks' droll. I always feel like telling whoever speaks it to 'man-up' and stop sounding so wet. Even the women!!!!!!

I have heard that in some Bratfordians but she doesn't say it. Unless it;s just my ears.

I just call her a daft wessie when she takes the mick.

i used to get all the "farv t' narn" teasing at school. in hull!!!!!!!!!!!

i still have a mate who emails about curka curla.

i like to string lots of o sounds together. oh no! it's yoko ono! so, yoko - polos or rollos?

i think it's common (not just in hull) for people to think their local accent sounds awful.

i ve a mate who was here at uni from south yorkshire. i love the way he remembers a taxi company called farve oh farve oh farve oh, when i ve never head of em? not really anything to do with accents, but certainly a local 'flavour', i have to say id never heard of 'wet dog tuesday' till he mentioned the weekly smell coming from the molasis refinery on sutton fields. it does indeed smell like wet dog!
