How will we end the season?

5th place I'm hoping for. Means we don't have to go through the Qualifiers.

I think we will finish there. We want it more than Chelsea.

 

Wherever we finish the lads have done us proud and we've had a great season watching some great football.

I won't vote, let's just see what happens here on.

 

We have had a great season.
Most fans thought we would be top ten and would happily have taken that at start of season.
We have also stuffed some of the pundits. love it.

 

I have elevated us from 6th to 5th. I have been saying 6th since it became clear we'd defo be top 6. But having had time to digest the various fixtures etc, I'm feeling a bit more positive. I think you can overestimate the impact the merseyside semi final may have on our season, but there is no doubting it will have some bearing. If Liverpool get through it will give them a bit of confidence for their league fixtures. When you consider two of their home games are against Spurs and Chelsea. Of course Spurs comes last so they may field a weakened side. Liverpool winning will also release pressure from us and that has to be a good thing. Obviously if Everton win it'll ramp up the pressure on us but could actually aid us in that our fixture away to them will fall the week before the final.

The main thing is to just stick to the principles which have taken us this far, and leave nothing out on the pitch by the time the 5 games are up. If we keep our discipline and apply ourselves in each of the games, we can take points from any of them.

 

**** it, I'm voting for fourth. Provided we keep our form I think we have the edge of Chelsea (because of schedule &c.) and Tottenham (because faceflap is going to do a runner to England and they are going to be in management limbo shortly).

Probably overly optimistic I know, but I never thought we'd even be thinking about it at this point, so why not?

I go for the one not on there! 4th place with Europa League (Chelsea winning CL) as I like to be different

 

I really wanted to see Jose in goal on Saturday.

 

I'm fairly sure 5th place gets Europa League regardless of what happens in the Champions League, I don't think it has a knock-on effect, it's just that UEFA have said that only a maximum of 4 teams can enter from England. Although it's unlikely Chelsea are going to win it to be honest.

5th gets a European place regardless. If Chelsea win the CL and finish in 5th, then 4th is a Europa League place. 6th is as well if Liverpool get to the FA Final: otherwise the Europa will be 4th, Liverpool and Everton.

If Chelsea win the CL and finish 6th, then 4th and 5th get the Europa league regardless of the FA Cup. If Liverpool is in the FA Cup final, then 7th also gets Europa. If Everton get to the FA cup final, then 4th, 5th, Everton and Liverpool are in the Europa.

This as well! Totally unexpected.

 

Qualifying for the CL is two games FFS. Then we can potentially test our mettle against the likes of Real Madrid! I'm pretty sure if we fail in the qualifiers we end up in the Europa group stage anyway, so two extra games in a season is worth it. The fact you wouldn't want to be on the best stage again after all this time away just baffles me.

 

I'm not talking about the ****ing champions league you muppet. Why does everyone assume I'm talking about the CL qualifiers?

If you finish 6th you have to go through a bunch of qualifying rounds for the Europa League, if you finish 5th you get automatic qualification to Europa.

That's what I mean when I talk about finishing 5th over 6th.

Of course I'd rather get into 4th, but I'm just saying finishing 5th and getting int Europa League without going through the qualifiers would be so much better than finishing 6th and having to go through the qualifying rounds.

 

I kind of assumed you were talking about CL qualifiers because I was pretty sure you said in the other thread you'd prefer to finish 5th over 4th so we 'wouldn't have to go through qualifiers'. Wires crossed, apologies.

Anyway no need to start name-calling is there.

 

4th Spurs are having their usual end of season implosion and Chelsea don't have the goals like Newcastle do to win games at the moment.
