Hello everyone, it's my first time to Vicarage Road and I was just wondering about any parking reccomendations? I prefer parking a bit out the way and walking 20 or 30 minutes or so than parking right near to the ground and queing in traffic for ages. So if anyone knows a sweet little spot I'd be forever grateful! Also what's traffic like getting to and from games? Thanks in advance and best of luck after tomorrow!
There is a big Tescos off the edge of town centre, which is always a good place to park and is 20 mins away from stadium. Traffic is generally ok, depending where your coming from, the M1 can get busy but just leave enough time for issues on the motorway! Hope that helps
Cheers thanks alot, been told by a fellow tiger to park on one of the industrial estates just south of the stadium of Wiggenhall road. Which would be the best way of getting there? Junction 5 and then left down Waterfields Way or right around Beechen Grove and round the town center? Ta.
Odd fellows is a good boozer. Its 5mins from the ground and they often have a BBQ in the beer garden. I have been in there and its pretty decent. If not there are several on the high street- moon under water, O'Neils and a Walkabout i believe.
Can anyone remember when it became the 'away fans' hostelry? Years ago it used to be part of my pre-match ritual - a couple in the West Herts then a quick stroll to the Oddfellows for a couple more before a dash to the Rookery.
All the options mentioned above mean a venture into the town centre or at least close to it. My suggestion is to try the Cassiobury Estate which is off the A411 coming into Watford from the north. If you're coming down the M1, then take the M25 anticlockwise and exit at Junction 20 going along the A41 southbound to Huntonbridge roundabout. (If you're coming from Wookey Hole, exit the M25 clockwise at Junction 19 towards Huntonbridge roundabout). Then take the A411 towards Watford, and turn right at the first proper set of traffic lights (Langley Way). Turn left at the pub (Essex Arms) along Cassiobury Drive and park as close to the end (a cul-de-sac) as you can in any of the side roads. Follow the fans under the Rickmansworth Road and into Cassio Road and you cannot then miss the ground - you will pass the Oddfellows Arms on the right. Get to the Cassiobury Estate before 2.00 otherwise you will have a longer walk than 20mins. Get back to the car as quickly as possible after the match (if they let you out) and you'll be away up the M1 before most of us have got out of the ground!
Can't really remember when it turned to the dark side. But I was in the public bar of the Odds after we'd beaten Southampton 7-1 in the League Cup in 1980. A Watford fan stayed in the pub instead of going to the match because we had no chance, being 4-0 down from the first leg.........
BB - it must have been 5 - 8 years ago. They changed the name to Mac's Bar and it became the away pub..it went back to the Oddfellows around the start of last season - I pass it on the way from the West Herts...
