Abramovich definitely doesn't have the stomach to start another rebuilding project at Chelsea.

What has this "light years" advantage actually won them?

Is their a top manager he hasn't already left his money on the bed side cabinet?

Ok, ok the prozzie analogy is done lol..

But he can't throw money at it like he used to, he won't have the elite European comp to attract top players & the team is ageing but a nightmare for a manager to come to. No chance of winning the league.

So Chelsea fans, enjoy being above us this year.

Same with Spurs; they may squeak into Champions league this year but with what Manager, and when City fail to win the league & start batting the eyes at Bale, will he ignore them?

Arsenal: Despite the twots that camp on here, I like Wenger but Stadium or no, proclamations or no; I don't think they have money so it will be back to relying on Wengers genius to maintain a 3rd place paddle. He can only do it so often....

I've hated the last couple of years and we've a couple of years to go in this transition but we're the only ones below United & City to have started!

Dave, we could go through all the reasons why and half my fellow fans would disagree with me but I really am excited about the way forward for us.

Spurs and Newcastle don't need rebuilding at the moment. They've just hit their ceiling (IMO).

Yeah; didn't mention Newcastle as it'll be interesting to see where they go from this season.

Spurs don't need to rebuild if they keep their stars. Do you think they will?

Dunno, but let's be honest, most people didn't think Modric would be playing there this season. If they bottle out of the top 4? Then yeah, I can see Modric leaving. Dunno about Bale and the rest though. Most of them like VDV, King, Parker etc have no resale value and Bale would be too expensive for most clubs to consider.

And with their current star players plus location they've always got the chance of attracting a relatively big name manager.

That said I don't think Modric will be there next season, Bale will though I think.

I think that you're wrong. One of the major reasons why United have stayed at the top is that Ferguson began his re-building BEFORE his sides hit their ceilings.

Spurs have very strateguc problems. Can they retain Modric and Bale and if so how much will it cost them? Can they find a replacement for the injury prone Van der Vart and King? That leaves aside the need for a new manager.

As for Newcastle (and they have done well this season) their squad is extremely sparse. They have got away with it this season.

I think you missed the point, the question was about stepping down not being sacked!.I'll give my opinion as most on here seem incapable of not getting embroiled into a slanging match.
I think Kenny should be given another season to carry on developing the team, there's not many managers would be expected to step down after winning silverware and possibly more in their first season(this time around). However i think he is feeling the pressure of poor league performances and therefore i think he will step down and move upstairs.

I hope you are right and that he will do the right thing. I honestly think that he (with the best will in the world) is not the person who will take the club THAT next step up. Whilst there have been people here arguing that with Kenny here our football has improved, I have always said that this was debatable. We have won a Cup and we have got to the FA semis yet our league positions and performance show we have NOT improved. We can all blame it on near misses and pens not given ( and refs which BTW does not put Kenny in a good light) the table does not lie. With due respect to the toffees, to be lower than them when they have spent only a fraction of ours shows how bad we've been.

Def another season for Kenny for me. If we get a serious, international striker, Sterling starts to figure more, Lucas returns and Downing, Hendo and Carroll continue improving / settling in we will do alright next season.

Especially if we sand a layer or two of paint off the goal posts :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I agree with Frank et al - this is an exciting time for LFC. The first time in years we have a plan to improve. Remember H&G? They were truly depressing times.

Oh and we have the small matter of an FA Cup Semi Final tomorrow...

I'm not saying any of that won't or can't happen. But why doesn't the same apply to Liverpool too. Man city probably won't win the league so what's to stop them going after your best players. Suarez can replace teves. Lucas probably improvement over Barry. Agger over lescott. There are also doubts over your manager and he might not be with you next season either.

I don't think it's a rebuild we need really. I think we have most players we need but some improvements in just a few areas would help. Central defence we can improve especially as we get injuries there literally all the time. Up front we also need some additions regardless of whether Adebayor stays or goes. But I think we're good everywhere else or at least solid.

Obviously a lot depends on who leaves which is dependent on cl for a few players. But last summer modric was only linked to Chelsea as he didn't want to leave London. If Chelsea don't get top 4 then its unlikely he'll go there especially if abramovic is cutting down funding as mentioned here. Plus we would get over 40 mill even of he did leave considering how hardly we negotiate when transferring players out. I'm sure we can find a solid replacement plus have money left over with that.

I can't speak for everyone obviously, but when I say I think the football has improved, I mean the style. I think we are playing more attractive, entertaining football overall. Clearly the results are not good enough, so we have to add a bit of efficiency in front of goal and ruthlessness to what we already have.
But that's the point- we need to add to and improve on what we've got, not change it wholesale again.
