The game is scheduled to be played at Wembley on Saturday the 14th of April at 12.30PM. The game is to be shown on ESPN (Build-up begins at 11AM) and BBC Radio Five Live will have the radio rights to the game. (Build up begins at 12PM) Preview. Liverpool Vs Everton is always a big game. A chance for a player to make himself a hero with the winning goal. The bragging rights which come with a win. This one will be massive. Yes, it’s an F.A Cup semi-final and the clubs meet at Wembley in a game which the winners will face either Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur in the F.A Cup final. Let’s have an in-depth look at both sides and their chances of reaching the F.A Cup final. Liverpool. It’s been a weird season for Liverpool. There has been great success in the cups so far with the Carling Cup already won and in the semi-final of the F.A Cup. The league form hasn’t been as good though. A run of five defeats in their last 8 league games has meant that Liverpool were low on confidence and form going into the last game before the semi-final. This game was Blackburn away and Kenny Dalglish seemed to signal his intentions for the rest of the season by resting key players such as Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard & Jose Enrique. This gave fringe players a chance to stake their claim for a stop in the starting 11 on Saturday. It was an eventful game in which Liverpool goalkeeper Doni, filling in for the suspended Pepe Reina, was himself sent off and is now suspended for the semi-final! This allowed third choice Brad Jones to get his first taste of Premier League football for Liverpool. He is the man that is expected to be in goal for Liverpool in this game. Liverpool won the game 3-2 with Andy Carroll getting a last-minute winner and stopping the rot. This will be a great confidence boost for Liverpool going into this game. Players such as Andy Carroll & Jordan Henderson put in a good shift and would have put themselves into consideration for a place in the starting 11. As i’ve already mentioned, the goalkeeping situation will be of concern to Liverpool. Pepe Reina and Alexander Doni are suspended for the semi-final which means that Australian Brad Jones will be between the sticks for this game. This could be an issue considering he has only started two games for Liverpool and the last time he started a game in December 2010. The fact that he won’t have played with the defence for a decent period of time will be of concern. It will also be an inexperience goalkeeper on the bench with either Peter Gulacsi (If he is allowed special dispensation from the FA) or one of the goalkeepers from the academy. (Most likely Danny Ward or Tyrell Belford) The likes of Luis Suarez & Steven Gerrard will be key to Liverpool’s chances. Gerrard has already done quite well against Everton with a hat-trick as Liverpool defeated our Merseyside rivals 3-0. Having been left out of 18 against Blackburn, he will be fit and ready to participate in another highly-charged derby. Luis Suarez will also be a threat. Able to make something out or nothing, he is Liverpool’s top scorer this season with 13 goals this season. He already has scored against Everton this season with the second goal in a 2-0 win at Goodison Park. He also got two assists in the 3-0 at Anfield. Also rested against Blackburn, he will be fresh for this semi-final. Everton. Everton have another good season. Rather predictably, David Moyes and his side started the season slowly but have hit form going into the latter part of the season and currently sit 7th in the league and are 1 point ahead of Liverpool! It’s the recent form which has meant that Everton go into the game in better form than their Merseyside rivals. Since the 1st of January, Everton have picked up 26 points and would be 5th in the Premier League if the season had started in January. Good wins over the likes of Swansea, West Brom and Sunderland (Twice!) in the last month have meant that the squad is buzzing with confidence. The defence has been key with 5 clean sheets in their past 7 games. This has meant that Everton have conceded just 34 goals this season which is excellent. Everton also rested key players such as Leighton Baines, Tim Cahill & Nikica Jelavic but were still able to produce an excellent performance as they swept aside Sunderland by 4 goals to nil. This performance will give Everton great confidence going into the game and the fact that like Liverpool, the so called ‘fringe’ players, put in an excellent performance will mean that David Moyes will have a rather nice selection dilemma. The fact that Moyes rested his key players means that they will be fresh going into the game. Players like Nikica Jelavic will be a massive threat to the Liverpool backline. The Croatian has 5 goals in 10 games since his January move from Glasgow Rangers and Everton fans will be hoping that he can solve the goalscoring problems that have affected them in recent seasons. Add into this the aerial threat of Tim Cahill and the Liverpool backline will need to be on top form. We of course can’t forget Marouane Fellaini. His aerial presence is helped by his hair though! Meetings This Season Date: 1st of October 2011. Venue: Goodison Park. Final Score: Everton 0-2 Liverpool. The strikeforce of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez got the goals for Liverpool as they took the three points away from Goodison Park. As you would expect in the derby, there was controversy. Midfielder Jack Rodwell was sent off in the 23rd minute for a perfectly good challenge. The red card was later rescinded but Everton weren’t happy as it left them down to 10 men for over an hour of the game. The big man up front for Liverpool, Andy Carroll, got their first goal after he put a cross from Spaniard Jose Enrique away. A mix-up between Leighton Baines & Sylvain Distin allowed Suarez to nick the ball in the box and give Liverpool a 2-0 lead and that was how it finished. - Date: 13th of March 2012. Venue: Anfield. Final Score: Liverpool 3-0 Everton. Steven Gerrard scored the first hat-trick in a Merseyside derby since Ian Rush in ’82 as they comprehensively beat Everton 3-0. Gerrard opened the scoring in the 34th minute as he lifted the ball over Tim Howard and the Everton defence after a Martin Kelly shot was saved by Howard. Gerrard then extended Liverpool’s lead in the 51st minute after good build-up play from Suarez. He then sealed Liverpool's first hat-trick in this game since ’82 with more link-up play from Suarez giving Gerrard his hat-trick and Liverpool a comfortable victory. The Last Meeting In The F.A Cup Date: 4th of February 2009. Venue: Goodison Park Final Score: Everton 1-0 Liverpool Dan Gosling got the only goal of the game in extra time as Everton knocked Liverpool out of the F.A Cup at the fourth round stage. After a 1-1 draw at Anfield, this was the replay. Liverpool lost Steven Gerrard early to injury and their cause wasn’t helped when Lucas was sent off in the 76th minute. It took until the 118th minute for the deadlock to be broken. Dan Gosling curled the ball past Pepe Reina to give Everton the victory. The game is also remembered for the ITV cutting to adverts during the game which resulted in T.V viewers missing the goal! Injury News. Liverpool. Charlie Adam: Knee Injury. Martin Kelly: Ankle/Foot Injury. Jack Robinson: Ankle/Foot Injury. Lucas Leiva: ACL Knee Injury. Everton. Jack Rodwell: Hamstring Injury. I have always said that everton were a bunch of ******s but now I have proof that they play with themselves. Sorry about that, great start to the thread as usual and I just wanted to prove to you that some of us do actually read your threads.
Think its going to be a great game, With Liverpool just winning... Thats said if you do beat us, I really hope you can go on and win it.....My earliest memories of Liverpool FC are all about Liverpool vs Everton at Wembley, just a shame it isnt the final on saturday
I am going to miss the game and all games this weekend........ 7 , potentially 8 games to coach this weekend
As usual good job Chris always a good read It is going to be a game like all previous encounters but this 1 is a bit more special winner goes to final and gets the local bragging rights for 2/3 weeks I see this 1 being with a few goals but going to say 3-2 to us with Carroll scoring the winner for us.Maybe that will silence his critics COME ON LIVERPOOL AND GIVE US SOME
That's unlucky lad I know it's not the same but you will be able to watch game in full 24 hours later on LFC.TV if you are signed up with it
Indeed I do not have! I will just hop on footytube and catch the extended highlights. Or just wait a day or two and FSC will show the replay at some point. Will be following on the ol phone, but obviously not the same.
no idea what will happen... al i want is to be entertained so best of luck to both sides and i hope we see lots and lots of hilarious and dramatic moments and not a boring tactical affair. 4-4 then... lfc to win replay 1-0 when reina returns.
We must be in with a shout then Cowboy Fanny Great thread Chris. Better late than never...................................
No replay MITO. Extra time and pens for this one............................. .......................PLEASE. Not pens AGAIN
Good luck tomorrow, please do us a favour and win tomorrow, then we will almost certainly be in Europe.
who decided there'd be no replays in the fa cup? why do other sides get replays in earlier rounds... anyway... i'll take pens right now. love it... drama and a giggle.
I just don't get why the semi finals are at Wembley as it takes something away from the final. Still, it will be a great occasion for the clubs and the city as a whole
i kind of agree.... semi final should be in old trafford for this one really and spurs chelsea should do the emirates. however the only thing we can say is 90k can go. really it just costs a lot to get there.
