do we really need this argument? Soccer is a **** name but Im not really that bothered if you do use it or not! I think we would struggle against a lot of league one teams no doubt but then again I dont think there is much difference between the leagues, I think Wigan Bolton and a lot of prem teams would struggle in the champ.
In my personal experience people who use the world soccer generally know little about the game. A few of the posh mothers of the kids I used to coach would refer to it as soccer, never the father or never the child. Regardless of its origin I do associate the name with the Americans as they use it to define 'association football' as they have there own brand of Football. The Americans should be well respected in the footy steaks these days as they play a lot more, watch a lot more & there standard is constantly rising. In fact if you look at the pool they can select from it wouldn’t surprise me if they over take England in the world rankings in the next decade. However, the word Soccer is a bug bearer for me. Regardless if its technically right I grew up playing Football, I support a Football team & earned my coaching badges training in Football & don’t own a soccer ball!
All I'm saying is the people who I have met and use the word soccer know **** all about the game. You may know people who use the word soccer who are fully aware of where the word originated from. Maybe we mix in different circles. You say Soccer I'll say Football. Only my opinion.
Content to abbreviate and use other terms though? So is that rugby league, rugby union, american, australian or gaelic football you are referring to? <-- couldn't find an annoying little pedantic **** laugh Pish posh. I bet you do own a soccer ball
I'm fully aware of where the term soccer came from but it still just puts me in mind of Americans who don't actually know that much about the game and support Man Utd because they love the "EPL".

I already knew that is was called association football. Thats not new to me and I also knew thats where the term 'soccer' came from. It still doesnt take away from the fact that I hate the word, its just a **** word. And I also know that the word foot refers to a game played on foot but thats just a ridiculous reason to call it football, not only that its more the word ball that annoys me. Its not a ball, its a stupid egg thing that doesn't bounce properly. You will never convince me to call it soccer.
So what you're saying is that we can call cricket, tennis, baseball etc. football too? Are we supposed to sit on the table for table tennis?
