Its between Peter Crouch and Huth for me, but Crouch just takes it, a quality player who SHOULD be going to the Euros. who does everyone else think should get the reward?
I was thinking about this at work today. For me it has to be Huth, Shawcross or Crouch who have been the standout players this season IMO. For his goals alone I would vote for Crouchie I think.
Not a lot to choose between Ryan, Huth or Crouch.. but goals win games and I did tip Crouchie to get 15 this season. 13 so far, Crouch for me. My reason? Our goal diff is crap and without those goals we would be in the bottom 5 at best I think. Huth? nope he's fouling player's far too often and sooner or later we'll be conceding pens.. anyone else see him jump with both hands on Collins shoulder when he scored at the Villa? Wigan's goal was not given last night for far less. I guess we're owed some luck as I think it was a clear foul, just pleased the ref didn't see it. Honestly can not think of another Stoke player who deserves it over the season so far.
These are the only 3 that have actually played ok this season - the rest have been poor. For me its Crouch, goals win games - SIMPLES!
I don't think he's a contender for player of the season, but for me Marc Wilson has been one of our best players, he's always consistent, very rarely lets us down, and is out of position!
Its not that he has a bad season, it that you hardly know he'e even on the pitch. Gets forward even less than Wilko ( which is why Ethrington has struggled) and often gets burned for pace. I rate him highly and considering he is out of position I think he should get a medal, but not player of the year.
Yeah, not going to be player of the year, but definitely deserves more credit than he gets. I know what you mean about him not getting forward and how it effects Matty. I think sometimes not noticing him on the pitch is necessarily a bad thing, he's not doing anything outstanding, but not being noticed for **** ups either! As you've said, pace can be a problem, but his positioning is really good which balances his lack of pace. I also like that when he does actually get forward he can be unpredictable for defenders, being right footed, but has a good enough left to cross, just a shame he doesn't get into that position often, even if it is risky, given he's not the fastest and it's a long way back!! But I'm going with pretty much everyone else for player of the season- Crouch.
Pistol Which is why we're all hoping Tony P eventually gives Wilson a chance in midfield.. that he where he would be more useful. Done a great job all things considered. One or two **** ups but not many of our player's can say they don't do that now and again. His lack of pace would not be noticed in midfield and you are right. He can pass it and has a very good left foot. A pity that Pulis has seen fit to stick him there all season.
My vote goes to Crouchy. Why? 13 goals nobody gets near to that. Most of Walters goals are from penalties. Without those 13 goals we would probably be in the bottom three let alone bottom 5. Crouch quite often away from home has to fight alone and it is to his credit he has scored more goals for us than he did for Spurs. He scored 12 goals in 73 games for Spurs. So in my view a great buy and a great season for Crouchy. I am sure he will want to put one over ArseNIL!!! hoperfully TWO to make it 15!!
Shawcross for me, hardly put a foot wrong all season and held us together when Pulis was chopping and changing the back four to accommodate Woodgate. Obviously Crouch has done well too, as has Huth, but Shawcross takes it for me.
I have, here's the link for anyone else: http://www.stokecityfc.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,10310~2710877,00.html
It's a tough one, Crouch has scored a few with very little posession but Shawcross has seen much more of the ball. Crouch for that wondergoal I think.
Gotta be Huthy for me ... proper defender top drawer player .. cud fit into any of the top 6 defences with ease .. and puts his 100% in every week ... top man top player I can see where some of u guys are goin with Crouch but cause we dont score loads o goals Huthy makes sure we dont concede either .. TBF Shawcross been top drawer too ! it is nice tho to finally get a forward into double figures
I would have said Huth, because he scores a few as well as being solid at the back, but I sometimes feel he can be a liability with some of his shirt pulling and blocking tactics
