What with it looking like Pompey may go to the wall or face a fate not much better in the form of L1 hoofball, will some of you lot come " incognito " to St. Mary's to witness the thrills of the world's most illustrious league ?
I think if Saints had gone to the wall I would have moved into Bournemouth. Couldn't imagine supporting Portsmouth. Some of my family does and don't really have anything against them.
Would you consider switching allegiance ? No. Although I might be tempted to go and watch Chatham Town now & again.
Boot on the other foot? Probably not. Well, actually definitely not, as I could have gone to Fratton Park when Pompey were in the prem and we were in league one, but the thought never occurred to me. I guess we might get a few JCL's but they wouldn't support AFC Portsmouth in any case. Can't see many true blues changing allegiance somehow.
Oh I don't know Channon, you only have to look back at the brought FA Cup win. All those so called Pompey fans that came out the wood work, Were not true Pompey fans, They have not been seen since, especially in their hours of need, shows that, most probably had a Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal etc poster on their wall. Sheep are easily lead, so once the the South CoastsTop Side is back in its rightful place, some of them will wander over and get pulled in by the fact of supporting a Top Club That is run the right way and who knows success will bring even more and maybe a Bigger more shinny stadium. In fact the Pompey fans left, if there is a club to support, Will have a job to walk the streets with the weight of the Chip on their shoulder and the envy in their heart.
To be honest I couldn't see many of the Pompey fans jumping ship to Saints. You will get some of the youngsters maybe not many......some that have a passion for football will go down the coast to Brighton or to the nearest decent side perhaps. Depending on where they live, but not to Saints I don't think. Too much water under the bridge.....more likely they will buy away tickets and support which ever side Saints are playing at the time....... I know, it ain't no laughing matter...but things don't look good.
I am hoping that the Pompey fans who are getting off their backsides and trying to do something manage to get their Plan B club going. If they do I will have nothing but admiration for them. What I do find surprising is the number of Pompey fans who are against the idea and rubbish it but instead live in the hope that someone will buy the club, clear the debt and spend a fortune when they themselves are unwilling to invest a small amount of their own momey in Plan B which would make their club a truly community based club.
There's no way any Pompey fan or "fan" would swap to Saints. The plastics would start "supporting" Chelsea or Man City/Utd. The genuine fans would support AFC Portsmouth regardless of their division. For myself, if there were to be an interim period without the existence of a phoenix club, I would allow my allegence to pass to Havant & Waterlooville rather than another league side.
I think that there are quite a few people around the area, who like to watch PL football. They came to watch it at FP and now, will go to SM for their pleasure. It doesn't necessarily follow, that you have to support a team to go and watch a football match.
That's very true pm BUT and IF, we were reasonably successful again, These fans definitely would get swayed to follow the Red and Whites.
