Frank Arnesen was at Chelsea during Mourinho's successful spell. DoFs are common in Europe, where they don't have a problem with it and you may have noticed European clubs currently doing better than English ones. So they are good for some clubs, just like some managers, some scouts, some players, some physios and some coaches are good for some clubs. Like you're being economical with logic and sense. Not being privy to all the secret negotiations I can't say as definitively as you but with only 8 hours in the transfer window and £50m in from Torres what would you have done? Signed Darren Bent for £25m and one season of effectiveness. Great bit of panic-buying that would've been. Everybody knew Carroll was the most promising English striker for years and every PL manager would've taken him. We got paid £15m for doing so. Boohoo, poor us. You'd think from the attitude to DoFs that every manager picks brilliant signings every time. That's just not true and the best ones usually manage about 50% successes. Many LFC fans didn't see Lucas or Kuyt as good signings but those are the fans who judge everything on first season performances. Hit the ground running or hit the road. Development? That's for run-down areas, not footballers. To judge any of the new signings this season on this season is foolish, especially the younger players. We brought in several replacements out of necessity for dead wood on big wages. The squad depth was improved while the wage bill was cut. I'm sick of hearing from media muppets about "over £100m spent" like we went out and bought two £50m players to replace two freebies. We had a lot of foundation work to do and they were sensible buys at the time. Who makes the cut remains to be seen but we'll get more for all of them if we have to ship them out than Utd will for Berbatoiv this summer. Commoli deserves some credit for that.
I think FSG have a new manager ready to come in at the end of the season but the deal hinged on him having total control not dealing with Comolli or any other such person. Kenny will go back to Club Ambassador.
Welcome to the forum mate. Are you the lovelycushionedheafer from the old 606? Or just an imposter? Good to see you here any how. I'm not too disappointed to be honest, wold rather someone like Camolli leave than Dalglish and I think improvements to be done in the transfer market. I'm still confident that Handerons, Coates and some of the youth brought in could turn out very well for us. Like Camolli says, the squad work is done. maybe this summer is more about tweaking? Bringing in established players to improve the first 11. We could even be looking in to it too much...mutual consent? family reasons? Could actually be some truth in that. By the way why would this mean Rafa was coming back?
I'm not so sure, I don't think Kenny would react like this...? http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11669/7667227/Dalglish-sad-to-see-Comolli-go Or maybe he is just covering it up, who knows. Lets just beat Everton!
I didn't really use the old 606 much, was a frequent user of ja606 until recently, but it's become a bit of a playground over there. The only way I can see this being linked to Rafa, is because by freeing up the Director of Football role, we're creating a vacancy to sidestep KK into come summer. Personally I'd prefer give him another year, but it's not my 100M he's already spent and if he does get another significant budget then I expect he'll be far more heavily supervised as to who he spends it on.
It seems you have the inside knowledge of Organisation and Structure of Liverpool Football Club because you are speaking with authority. When a manegerial position becomes vacant you can apply.Muppet.
Unfortunately muppet here is what happens when you take one of my articles to heart, chase another to make a point. I come across something you've said and make it sound stupid. "Not being privy to all the secret negotiations I can't say as definitively as you but with only 8 hours in the transfer window and £50m in from Torres what would you have done? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LISTEN TO YOURSELF carroll is the most promising english striekr for years???? lets just ake a list of promising english striekrs and put carroll in context then... lets start with sturridge and wellbeck, and thats jsut for starters! We took 50mil, wasted 35mil on a panic buy that is actually worth about 10-15mil and somehow thats 15mil profit? Sorry mate.. Ihad to do it turnabout is fair play and all... espcially when one is bored in work.
To be Fair MITO, MFG said Carrol WAS one of the hottest prospects, not that he IS. His goalscoring record when we went for him was better than Sturridges or Wellbecks. Saying that though, I almost choked on my KitKat when I saw we'd put the £30 mil bid in for him, after we got him for £35mil I wasn't able to get an erection for 3 weeks.
I know what we must do, something Comolli had not done in my mind, and that is to find the experience to go with the youth... If Gerrard and Carra are both missing then the team is made up of very few that have been there done that... Who is going to be responsible for making such signings as Diddy Hamman or Gary Mac...? Who can spot the Hyppia's and Henchoz's of this world.. Even Smicer had a great deal of experience of the Europen scene in a good Czech side... I know that there are many clubs out there looking for the next golden nugget of a player but we need someone with that sort of background to help the youngsters come on... I dont want to hark back to 10 years ago, and say it was all better then, but the team had a good balance of home grown players and experience... Its something that is missing from this squad big time... If Comolli has moved on for family reasons and there is no reason to suspect anything less, then the next DoF, if we get another one that is, must address this problem... We bought players to get us back into the top 4 min, and i still think that Hend, Down and Carroll will improve, im not a Adam fan tbh, but the team is short of that leader who can exude confidence and calmness that we so desperatley need... IF, we get another man in, and that may be a BIG IF at the mo, then his job will be to find experienced players to help what in my eyes still looks a good youthful squad...
Thought he might get the boot but let's see now, if everything is up to Kenny what we can get in the summer.
Without reference to Carroll specifically, I think there is an important aspect which fans (and managers sometimes) tend to ignore. The size of the fee paid may not have any effect on the financial health of the club. Some clubs like Real Chelsea or City may pay £35 -£50 million for a player wthout any huge effect on their finances BUT the size of the fee does whether we like it or not affect the dynamics within a team like ours. When you introduce a player with a £35 million price tag into a team or a squad, it is not the same as introdcing an academy or a player costing £3.5 million. the pressure is not only on the player. It is on the manager who brought him, the other players are conscious of him. Do you bench him? will it cause unrest? what will the press say? It takes a very tough manager to rest such a player. Torres was played in matches by successive chelsea managers even when he clearly was out of form and Drogba deserved to be in. So buying a £50 m player was worse than not buying anybody at all. Coming back to Carroll it is not his fault but buying him at such a high price had an effect which went beyond the finance books and his ability to deliver. It had an impact on the team performance itself. It is probalby better never to go for the record price
I'm pretty sure we were link with Suarez whilst Roy was still around. Kenny will have agreed with signing him though. Rafa signed them. But I heard Kenny suggested them. It was definitely Kenny that pointed out Wilson to Rafa. Kenny went to Shelvey's home in person, as club ambassador, did discuss the move.
Well, this isn't what I expected to read in the news this morning... Was he actually fired or did he really leave for personal reasons? Doubt we'll ever know
gut feeling is he was shown the door but given the chance to leave gracefully and under the pretext of family reasons, keeps his professional rep untarnished that way
Bit shocked by this news. Comes very much as a surprise considering he was appointed by FSG just over a year ago. Comolli sites family reasons for his departure but I am sure there will be plenty saying he has been push or forced to jump etc saying players that have been bought are not good enough. If he has left for family reasons, considering what FSG have said in the past, I think there may be a new appointment in due course. Best wishes to Comolli PS - not read all the comments (on lunch at work)
Kenny states in his book that Comolli had already scouting Suarez and starting negotiations prior to Kenny becoming manager. Comolli approached Kenny and asked for his approval before completing the deal. Kenny was well aware of Suarez anyway (part of keeping in touch with the game despite not being a amanger for so long) and said he 100% agreed with the Suarez signing.
There's a few whispers going around atm: Managing Director Ian Ayre is under question from the board atm about what he's actually done this year, including the PR handling of the Suarez incident... David Dein and Johan Cruyff getting tipped to be Comolli's replacement as DoF... Aaaand Tony Barrett of the times believes there might be more than just Comolli leaving Anfield today. Believe what you will
