Attendance: 11.596 (616 visitors) The first of the last two home matches of the season, both against clubs from Yorkshire. Neither clubs have a realistic chance of the play off matches so the only thing left is pride, and in Watfords case especially an opportunity to better last seasons poins total. WATFORD • The Player – Troy Deeney please log in to view this image “During the first half we couldn't get to grips with their midfield and the way they were switching positions. The goal before half-time then gave them a boost.” “When we play at home the pitch isn't the best but when we play at places like this [Cardiff], where there's a great surface, we have to adapt.” “Today we got our foot on the ball and had the courage to play and that's what the gaffer was saying [at half time]. We did that second half - we kept the ball and got hold of the game and we created some chances as well, which was good. I think we looked like going on and winning the game. They had the Kenny Miller chance but aside from that I can't think of too much else during the second half.” • The Hornets Stephen McGill has managed to play a complete match on his journey back to fitness, we hope Malky Mackay has not noticed. Adrian Mariappa has his ankle injury which has stopped him playing for a few weeks and Ross Jaenkins has an annoying groin strain. Carl Dickinson is still leading the way in the naughty corner with nine cautions. I'm happy with the way we played on Monday because that is the way I know we can play." • The Tigers Aarom McLean is injured and will not play again this season and Peter Gulasci the goalkeeper borrowed from Liverpool has been recalled because of their problems with suspended goalkeepers. Liam Rosenoir is recovered and may return to the team. Current form The visitors form is loking up. Five consecutive defeats ended with a win over local rivals Middlesbrough, before that there were three draws and a win. Watford on the other hand have managed one game without defeat, but before that there were seven matches without defeat, the bad mark was a home defeat to Blackpool Akureyri's Prediction: 1:1 Watford lost out to a goal in tha last minutes of the Kingston match earlier in the season and will suffer another late goal that will rob the Hornets of a win. skál/skÃ¥l/cheers/salut Don't forget The Hornet’s Nest Drop in for some match chat. another great thread Ak, thank you . I know Hull have a great defense, and we don't have so much up front, but our defense is solid too, a lot of the time, so i can see this being a low scoring game. However, in front of the home crowd, i think the team will want the home fans to feel better after the Blackpool game, so i'm going with 3-1, coz i think we're going to be a handful on Saturday
Thanks AK. Very readable and well written. I hope there are a few goals and of course most in our opponents net. Let's hope we can send Hull back t'up north with nothing ! Watching Wigan hold on now - that would be good if they could.
Great thread as always AK. I am looking forward to this, the penultimate home match of the season. Should be a good atmosphere and some good weather hopefully too. I think this will be tight and one goal will win it for the 'orns.
Our great defense is no more. Of the back four that was the best in the league, only one has played recently, with one returning against Boro. Rosenior, Chester, Hobbs and Dawson has been our regular defense. Against Boro it was Garcia, Chester, Cooper and Dawson. Chester, Rosenior and Hobbs were all injured recently. I don't think either of us have anything to play for but with Koren back in the team (if we'd had him in the last 6 I think we could be in the play-offs) we're stronger attacking than defending. I have to say fair play to you lot, I thought selling Sordell would drag you into a relegation scrap but it hasn't. You were a bit of a disgrace at the KC earlier this season but apparently you've changed now. I'm not going to bother making a prediction as it's almost impossible.
I feared the worst at one point when I though both M Sordell and Mariappa were going to be sold. However, we've turned it around. Cheers for the recognition, no one usually mentions that so thanks. Hopefully it should be a decent game. If you want to make it better you might want to bring your pitch down to play on. Or is it as bad as ours?
Our pitch was utterly embarrassing from late January to late March but looked alright against Boro. Still quite bobbly. If you're looking for a pitch we're definitely not the people to go to. It is one of the factors that City fans like to blame for our poor form, we like to play good football and move the ball quickly, the pitch at the KC certainly didn't allow us to do that effectively.
Well if thats the case i think it will be a very close game. Our pitch looks like the tees at Augusta on the monday morning after the masters. Its pitted and horrific atm. But we get a brand spanking new one for next season
That is what Baz promised us Mex. We dont know about the egg chasers yet, there are talks about them being here for the start, but then they might not.
Rosenior--it seems to be pretty much accepted now that teams must "play the pitch" at the Vic. It is not possible to play "good football" on it. Watford at home at this stage of the season play very direct , with lots of long diagonal balls to Iwelumo. We also rely on free kicks from Murray. The game will turn on which defence deals best with long balls, and how the ref performs in what may be a physical encounter. I am sure Dyche would like to play a different style of football, but that will not be possible till we get a new pitch. Hopefully this summer. To be followed by a couple of players who can play on it.
ah, sorry to hear that...well, not very sorry you understand. as for the pitch, though it's supposed to be renewed in the summer, the egg chasers are now apparently staying til January...grrr!
There are millions of starving third world toddlers (most of whom have a better grasp of language than yourself) who could be saved with the amount of money your parents pay for internet access.
Against M'boro our weakness was long diagonal balls being played for Emnes and McDonald to run onto. We eventually realised that if we defended deeper their pace was less of a threat in that situation. Against you I guess we'll be looking to keep the high defensive line so that his height advantage isn't as big a problem. (roughly our backline is RtoL Rosenior 5'8", Chester 5'9" Cooper 5'10", Dawson 5'8")
