Well, any competent Ref will always consult his Linesman if he thinks he had the better view. However at the end of the day, there can only be one Ref. I would stick with my view that a lot of these Linos can feel the crowds hot breath on the back of their necks, and just haven't got the bottle to give a controversial decision against the home side.
very true...best solution would be like cricket with an official watching on video...and each team has 2 or 3 chances per game to call on his services.
I think we've got to use technology to help take the heat of refs and linesmen. Most clubs in the top three divisions now have excellent TV coverage of every inch of their grounds, with very good editing hardware, allowing for fast playback and quick decision-making. There is absolutely no excuse not to use this technology to assist refs, in the modern game, and every reason why it should be used, right now.
UEFA have put in a bold and brilliant decision to have goal line assistants, shame the Prem didn't follow suit, we'd probably be three points or more clear in 4th place now.
Having goal line assistants is a great idea so long as they have the bottle to give the correct decision. There's been little evidence of that, so far.
Liverpool would have to win all of their remaining fixtures for that to be possible, HIAG. If we were to win one, then it couldn't happen.
Not that I can see us winning any of our remaining games, but it's more the fact that I can't see 'Pool winning all of theirs - that's the only basis upon which I am prepared to concede that we'll finish above 'Pool.
Well 8/12 from our last 4 (though should've been 10/12 ) mean we go into the final game certain that we can't finish lower than 6th. If Chelsea don't beat Liverpool on Tuesday then it's 5th or higher. The final day fixtures for everyone are: WBA Vs Arsenal Tottenham Vs Fulham Everton Vs Newcastle (Assuming Chelsea beat Liverpool) Chelsea Vs Blackburn I reckon Arsenal will draw to WBA, Newcastle will beat Everton and Chelsea will ease past the already relegated Blackburn. This will leave us with the opportunity to get 3rd if we beat Fulham, 5th/6th if we draw (Chelsea's GD dependent) or 6th if we lose. Fulham are playing well at present, with just 4 points dropped from their last 7 games and I think our defence has been a bit fragile of late. All said and done, I think we'll draw unfortunately and with my other predictions will leave us outside the top 4... Today's draw to Villa is looking more costly by the second
I don't give a toss about any other results, and the players shouldn't either. We just need to go out and win, which ensure's at least 4th, then if WBA do us a favour, great, if they don't, we pray Bayern Munich do.
We really shouldn't be in this position, having out flanked all but the two Mancs at some stage during this season. We 'should have' been safely booking our seats for some trips to CL and looking over our shoulders at the scrap for fourth place. The situation we find ourselves in now is that we have placed our 'nuts' in the hands of others and its beginning to look like they might get squeezed.
I think the Villa result was the best of the 4 from this week's round of matches involving teams 3rd to 6th. Overall, it's looking better by the minute I'd say. We're now guaranteed 5th, and I think we'll get 4th at least and also CL football next season. For me, Chelsea will lose in Germany.
