Just a random question, would you take him? He's 29 yes, but he's in great shape and I don't think players near 30 should be classed as old anymore. We've just signed Colo on a long term contract to his mid 30's so we're obviously not totally against older players. Imagine this Ba-------Cisse-------HBA --Dempsey---Cabaye--- --------Tiote---------- :O Dempsey and Cabaye are both hard working mids, both can create things, both can score goals when given the chance, both will track back. At the end of the day people can look at the midfield behind those attackers and say there's not enough protection to the back, but all our players are willing to track back and do a job, so we wont be exposed. Players aren't rooted to their exact positions. Anyways, I think Dempsey could be awesome for us. Any extra goal threat, extra bit of quality and creativity, and he could be a great part of the team. I mean that line up there is only an idea. It wont be played every single game and we can rotate players around. Forget the line up for a sec, would you sign Dempsey for the right price? He's not yet signed a new contract. If we finishing 5th, would he be tempted?
I don't think we could afford him and to be honest he's too old for our new policy, although yes I'd have in for sure.
I'd take him, even if he'd struggle to get a game with us. I've always liked him, his attitude is first class which means he plays up to his capabilities on a consistent basis. Not sure we need him really. Wherever he goes he'll want to play and I think he'd struggle to do that here because of the personnel we already have (Benni, Jonas, Ba, Cisse)
If you were to sign him it's worth playing him in the same position we do. He's not a central mid, either plays out on the left (but that basically means he can do what he wants) or up front. He's not disciplined enough positionally to play central mid and is at his best popping up in the area on the end of a cross. He'd be difficult to slot into your team as it stands. We're kind of built around him.
As someone has already pointed out, don't think we'll get him, can see Arsenal or Tottenham (if they lose Modric) going for him.
His age will be a problem for us. I'm not a big advocate of restricting yourself but if you look at someone like Inter and the detrimental effect they have suffered by not gradually changing personnel to keep the squad fresh, I do think you need something in place. An italian fella I know who is a big Inter fan is raging about it. He could not believe Santon was sold. He reckons of a squad of 28 first team players, 14 are past 30! And most of those 14 are in the starting xi. It is a problem you have to wary of. He says they have huge numbers of promising players out on loan but I agree with him that you can't just take 7 or 8 and plonk them in the first team squad after loans and think it'll all be rosy.
Anyway to make it american, you just serve twice as much. No wonder they're such an overweight nation, they eat like ****ing mammoths!
