How would you spend the (approximately) £75m this would raise?

    ----------------Friedel-----------------
    Walker---Kaboul---Vertonghen---BAE
    Lennon----Parker---???????-----Hazard
    --------------------VDV------------------
    ------------------Llorente---------------

    Hazard - £28m
    Llorente - £26m
    Vertonghen - £10m

Leaves about £10m of the 75, plus any extra investment by Levy to sign an attacking CM to replace Modric?

Boooooo, no selling our best players <grr>

If we sell those two we lose our appeal and are back to trying to tempt players that have talent but haven't quite made it yet to join us. Like Modric and Bale, but also like GDS, Bentley, KPB, Postiga, etc...

id spend the next season cursing Redknapp for a start..or should i say prolonging my cursing from this season.

i think we wont be able to cherry pick from the top tier..Modric is top tier..especially if we screw this season up.

id go for Dembele from Fulham,as a replacement for Modders..around a better team he would be class...and has an eye for goal..a criticism most of us share with regards to Modric..Dembele is not prolific but he could be with better movement around him.

To replace Bale i think id go for Marko Marin of Werder Bremen...he is class..i think with him we wont miss Bale...he seems more disciplined and can score too..very good delivery too...plus i would keep Andros Townsend in the first team squad.

id be looking to get Al Habsi too from Wigan to fight for the number 1 jersey.

i think someone has to grow some balls and move Caulker into the first team squad...Redknapp is getting on my cok with his persistence to overlook players that have been a success on loan as this defies the whole purpose of loaning out a fringe player....and maybe go for someone like the Vertongen as suggested.

upfront id forget about Diamao whatever his name and maybe go for Probneyak(sp) whos on loan at Fulham..we need someone who doesnt mind getting on the end of crosses etc and may well be in our price range.

ive tried to be realistic with my targets....i doubt we can get the likes of Hazard when Madrid and some other big boys are intrested.

I'm gonna throw this out there.

Modric is replaceable. I know, I know, in the past I have said the opposite.

This season, however, Parker has been the instrumental centre midfielder, for me. - he's protected us to levels that we could never have expected. This should have allowed modric to shine to a whole new level, but IMO, he hasn't. Modric does not score enough goals for a player if his type and can go missing in games. Yes, is ability to pick out a pass is awesome, but it's not been enough. There are centre midfielders that play for our rivals who have scored more goals, as well as having good ability in other areas. For example, Arteta. A very good player who's averaged 1 in 4or5 for the goons this season.

Luka's strike rate average is 1 in 10. - that is not enough. Don't get me wrong, his other attributes are very impressive, but i'm beginning to think that for £40mill... he's replaceable and that's dam good money.

Gareth Bale, however, is not replaceable.

Dembele's a very good shout. I'd still much rather have Modric, obviously.

id agree with you Roo about the goalscoring but how many of our attacks are due to Modders battling, winning then making a sublime pass for Bale to start his run?? ala goal 1 against Swansea?

for some reason i think Bale is more replaceable...i think Marin could replace him....hes dynamic, can cross..can score.....whoever we buy we cant expect to hit the floor running..but i really dont think Bale wil be leaving this year.

Marin plays in the middle mostly and isn't really a winger, he'd cut inside more than Bale does now.

dona, i'm not disagreeing with you about Modric at all. he works hard and can make a very good pass. - However, he does get caught in possession a lot and makes some poor decisions. There are other players out there that give their all in a game and have the ability to make a very good pass. all I'm saying is for 40 mill... he's replaceable.

I have to disagree about Bale though. If you can tell me of a player in the world that can skin just about every full back, has the power and stamina of bale, as well as being able to deliver crosses of his quality, I'd love to know. - he scares the **** out of people, that's why he's now being marked by 2 players in just about every game.

Marko Marin is top quality, but he's a different player. I would love us to sign him. he's very very clever. At times this season when we've looked "flat", he's the EXACT sort of player we need. correct me if I'm wrong Dona, But i've never seen Marin out as wide as Bale beating players on the outside. - He's always been a little bit more central and a bit more intricate when I've watched him. - almost like across between modric and VDV, but with very quick feet.

did he not play on the left against us? i thought he did and saw him whipping some beauties in.

he is out of contract next year aswell so we could push that boat out with some effort.

Personally....I's make it clear that modric is for sale and the biddibg starts at 40m...he's a good players BUT we need more goals from midfield and if we dont get CL footie he'll sulk all summer and he'll disrupt the team like the beginning of this. For once we need to sell in a way without leaving us in a mess.
As for bale ... he's young enough to give us 1 more year.

Levy will decide who goes and to where, both Modric and Bale are on long contracts and will probably be offered new deals. It will be an interesting and tiresome summer (again), but I trust Levy and he will absolutely get the best deal for Spurs.... whatever happens.

I'm sure others are going to join this thread when they get the chance and I'm going to get slated!

I just personally think we overrate Modric a little bit. not much, but a little. we do it because we don't have many "top class" players. every set of fans is responsible for the same thing, but unfortunately our rivals have a few more "top players" than us, so we try even harder!

There's no doubt about it though, he's very very good. but 40 mill for someone who's not 100% happy with his situation, is worth cashing in on, IMO.

if we get CL football and decide to sell... with the CL money (20-30mill), Modric's sale revenue (40mill), as well as any monies that we had planned to spend any way (rumoured 60 mill.. (will never happen)) ... we could have a very good squad all over the pitch with players who might be included in ROTATION!!! yes ROTATION!!! <laugh>

I remember him cutting inside at every opportunity and playing close to their striker. A friend of a friend lives in Germany but he was back a little while back and he seemed a little surprised that I asked about Marin, he reckons he plays more like VDV and doubted he'd come just to sit on the bench. He also said this Schurrle guy was going to be a better player and would make a mark at the Euros so I guess we'll know what his opinion's worth by the end of the summer :D

If you sell Modric the replacement is simple, Marvin Martin. If you sell Gareth Bale then you need either Dusan Tadic or Marko Marin and also Olivier Giroud.

ALL players are replaceable. Modric and Bale included. They may both be class but other teams are doing better than us without them- and that is always the case. It is about the team and sometimes Bale forgets that. And as I have stated elsewhere and Roo is saying, Modric does not score enough. We need first to look at who we've got and are not using enough. Could Pienaar fill the role in the middle and has Townsend got the potential?
As for players to buy, Frei the other night was terrific, people keep mentioning Hoillet and I know the others were linked with Dempsey today but maybe Brad could talk him round.
Most important is to find the goal scorer. Newcastle are where they are thanks to Ba and Cisse- they had a blip when Ba was at African cup and Cisse only joined in January but look how many they are scoring!!
