I agree he has looked better but last night was the best he has played for us IMO. Last night was more like the Andy Carroll from Newcastle! I still got frustrated for him when we had the ball out wide though, why don't we ever cross first time...?
Its ridiculous because when he is left out we are pinging crosses in left right and centre with no one even in the box!
Regardless of whether or not Downing is playing well, I thought we bought him to put crosses in to Carroll. Why then do we play one but not the other so often? Baffles me a bit, that one.
Despite his annoyance at being subbed off in the Newcastle game, I actually wonder if the poor reception he got from the Newcastle fans might really motivate him to prove himself for Liverpool - hence his performance against Blackburn. It really can't be easy getting jeered by the fans who used to love you, from the club you love and didn't want to leave. If he reacts the right way which he seems to be, he could really push forward (finally!).
Which reminds me JJ, Torres is yet to return to Anfield. Wonder what sort of experience it would be like for him? Seems like a lifetime ago he was playing for us.
Let's not forget he was also playing as a lone striker in a 4-4-1 for most the match, and then 5-3-1 later on, therefore had to work harder than usual. Not sure if its been mentioned but he also gets back for every corner and free kick and is often back defending in open play. People knock him for his workrate but thats a good showing, would like to see his stats for distance covered in a game.
Alot is mentioned about the £35 million you paid for Carroll and of course it must be a burden for him. Imo swapping Carroll for Torres and £15 million in the bank was and is good business. I think next season he will be what you hoped for .
I hope we simply ignore him. No booing, no applause. We should just get behind our own players unlike other teams' fans who spend more time booing ours than cheering theirs
Like the FA Cup quarter final vs Stoke. They were 2-1 down with 15 mins left...how do they support their team to push on for an equaliser? Sing songs about Suarez and carroll.
andy did ok, frankly his effort after doing something good in holding it up and bringing someone into the move is not good. he is far to inclined to trot about or watch the play rather than focus on simply getting to the danger zone. i'd like him to forget about that and just get there and then worry.
tbh, our crossing has been pretty poor all season; can't remember how many times we've got into great positions and failed to cross past the first defender.....in every game; it's little wonder that Carroll gets a little narked!
True but whenever a cross does meet AC, he doesn't score. He had another chance, a sitter IMO to score against Blackburn but missed it. Am I right in saying that this was his first headed goal for LFC?
Agreed, he should of buried that chance....tried to place it with power and it didn't work, the way he connected, anywhere else would of resulted in a goal. Everyone misses sitters though and it get shown up more if they only get a chance a game. Will be shocked if it is his first headed goal!
I agree but the crosses still aren't early or first time. We always try to get that bit closer or attempt to beat the man and/or get to the byline before crossing. Just whip the thing in like Beckham, Barton and Gerrard do!
Carroll seems to be a confidence player which I never would've said when he was at Newcastle, but I guess that's 'cause his rise was so quick...When playing for us, his workrate for the team was brilliant, he would chase down every ball, get stuck in, put himself on the line AND get into the box to score goals. From what I've seen of him and you this season, too often he's passed to IF Suarez isn't on, waist high balls get pinged into him and he doesn't know what to do with it. He will be a good player for you one day and I fear one of those days will come against us!
