Former Sevilla coach Manolo Jimenez has openly stated an interest in the Celtic managers job.

He was very highly rated when he was manager of Sevilla B team and made the step up to full Sevilla manager. He managed 5th and 3rd in La Liga in his two full seasons in charge. He also knocked Barcelona out of the Copa Del Rey this season.

Although he was sacked earlier this year after going out of the CL to CSKA Moscow and a slide down the league.

I watch a lot of Spanish football and this guy had Sevilla playing better football than Juande Ramos did. My only argument is that his team didn't have much fight when they had a poor run of form. A highly rated young manager though, with experience in a top league and the CL.

I'm not convinced he's the right man personally. But it's good to see someone other than Pardew, Jones or Davies linked with the job.

    Thought on this guy?

Probably be a decent appointment - but my only concern is he may be too big a risk

I think we need someone who understands scottish football and someone who who understands the fact he needs instant results and instant success.

I think he'd be more a long term manager - but would need to get lucky straight off

Yeah, it's just nice to see some people other than the usual, obvious bunch that the papers & bookies pull out. I can't imagine the board taknig that much of a gamble on a manager, not unless he was able to wow them in an interview and willing to work on a fraction of his previous budget.

It's a similar story as the Mark Hughes situation. Would you want to go from working with the likes of Tevez and Kanoute to working with Samaras and Fortune........

Take it that Csaba Laszlo, Dick Advocaat, Wim Jansen never existed then Nev?

The problem isn't to do with nationality. It's to do with adaptablilty. PLG failed because he was unable to adapt to the Scottish game and lifestyle.

Name me some big name foreign managers who've failed in Scotland other than PLG......

This is going to be the biggest managerial appointment for a long time. The board simply cannot afford to get it wrong this time.

But its a tough one - do they go down the rangers route of Smith - who is steady and brings instant success - yet is only a few defeats away from grumbling fans himself (lets face it if Smith hadnt won the title last year many gers would want rid of him - many moaned about his tactics even earlier this season

Or do we go for someon who can trasnform the future of club long term - we might not win anythign for a year or two this way though- woudl the fans accept that?

I think the board will go for the short term fix.

Regardless lets face it not everyone will be happy!!!! <laugh>

Davies is a useless ****. He does well for a couple of seasons then bottles it as soon as the going gets tough. That's the last thing we need; a bottler. Be as well getting Kevin Keegan in FFS.

I'm not saying that Jimenez is the man for the job either. But his record speaks for itself. What experience does Davies, Jones or Pardew have at a big club? None whatsoever. I wouldn't want Mark Hughes really, but I'd take him over the other three any day of the week.

I think Girvan is pretty much spot on in what he said. PLG and Mowbray failed because they brought high-minded ideas to a league where craft is secondary to guile. You need shrewdness to be an OF manager. Smith, Strachan and O'Neill are all men who know how to play the game on an almost sly level.

Nobody would say that any of these three managers have a mind for attacking, free-flowing football. But when the team start winning, the players gel. This increases confidence which allows the better players to be more creative. Winning matches is the cornerstone of getting a team playing well. Not some stupid adherence to a continental style approach.

A good manager is a good manager for me Nev. He could be ****ing Marvin the Martian for all I care. As long as he gets the team winning. I see your point about a Scottish manager, but the problem I have there is that the Scottish managers available just now are lacking in top experience.

If Davies had done the kind of job at his teams that M'ON done at Leicester. i.e Cup Finals and strong EPL finishes then fair enough. But he's he Scottish Mick McCarthy FFS.

If Levein hadn't taken the Scotland job then him vs Smith would have been brilliant. But he's the Scotland manager now and I want him to stay there. Can you think of any other suitable Scottish candidates other than Davies who would take the job? I can't, Moyes would be a great appointment but he's not interested.
