Finishing bottom of the Premiership but that is over 38 games and not 42? Leicester City the answer maybe, or Watfford? Stains, Wolves, Sunderland and West ham all finished bottom I thought in successive years. Worth a punt I suppose!
On the right lines (sort of ) but not the correct answer Remember the earlier clue; they were the first 6 teams to do this. New clue: It all happened in the 1970s
Tell this has nothing to do with dodgy flare-trousered official suits? They would certainly qualify as reasons for regret.
Well they did play 42 games in the leagues in the 70's , my feeling is it is something to do with Div.2. Still no wiser though! Will have a think about it on the train.
All finished 20th in the Football Div 1 and got relegated in consecutive seasons, starting with Saints 73/74, Luton 74/75, 75/76 Wolves, 76/77 Sunderland, 77/78 Hammers, 78/79 QPR. So QPR is the answer.
It was the first time 3 teams instead of two were relegated to the second division. I have consulted my handy English Football League & F.A. Premier League tables 1888-2009 Copyright Soccer Books and can confirm SingingBlue was right all along! Southampton had to be first at something!
Now we've all had time to get over Southampton's pioneering League performance from 1973-74 it's time for a new connection list: France ââ¬â Spain ââ¬â Italy ââ¬â Belgium ââ¬â Yugoslavia - ?????
Which is the oldest Devo team 6 or the other way around?. Is that old Yugoslavia in other words or National Federation of Yugoslavia(Serbia)?
I'll give it to Channon - It was Italy and the list was the first 6 hosts of the European Championships.
