POMPEY HAVE LAST LAUGH AFTER GAUNTLET OF HATE An extreme use of hyperbole to suit his readership!! If Southampton is a guantlet of hate what about Leeds-Manchester United, Villa-Birmingham, Newcastle-Sunderland or Celtic-Rangers encounters?
Let's face it- we're down. We can't win 2 games; let alone 4 !! And I can't see Bristol City struggling too much. Us, Donny and Cov will be all in the same division next season ..
Good luck in the JPT. Don't suppose you'd take 44,000 to Wembley if you reached the final, but enjoy the competition anyway. I did.
Good spot. I hadn't noticed the irony of our two clubs differing fortunes since our recent trips to Wembley.
Come one guys where's your sense of humour........of course it is a piece of journalistic nonsense. "Run the gauntlet of hate" the author clearly does not know the meaning of the word. I saw the coaches come in on the edge of the city....with the Pompey fans gesticulating to ordinary shoppers. They didn't get any response.....they didn't get any response until they were in Bitterne manor or coming over Northam bridge. Even then when they went past most Saints fans just laughed at the exploits of your so called supporters making an idiot of themselves. Going back was slightly different there was quite an exchange at the traffic light interchange just before Northam bridge but to be honest that was all for the rest of the journey back through the city. So yes there was some exchanges but no gauntlet that's for sure. As others have said just someone trying to whip up some hypothetical nastiness that he calls hatred. Such a shame no club needs that kind of supporter....but that as they say is life.....
Maybe check out the definition of Irony in the dictionary first though yeah.......Nothing ironic about 4 trips to Wembley!
Fro the OED Irony .n a situation that appears opposite to what one expects. -ORIGIN Greek eironeia 'simulated ignorance'
Five visits actually Mike - don't forget the Charity Shield game against Man. Utd., after we had beaten Cardiff
Well Mr Neil Allen the truth is that Pompey have dropped 4 valuable points to Saints this season that have almost certainly sealed their fate, but celebrated as if they had won the league on Saturday...We will see who has the "last laugh" at the end of April...
What "almost certainly sealed our fate" this season was the collapse of CSi due to circumstances out of the clubs control and the 10 point deduction that followed. We'd still be in the relegation battle if those 10 points hadn't been docked but we'd be 4th from bottom and a point ahead of Britsol City.
But it is true to say that the 4 points you dropped to us is likely to affect your season than vice versa.
Not at all. The 10 Point deduction, that was completely out of the fans control, is what has sent us down. We dropped points to other teams also.
You're actually claiming the 'FA Admin how to fleece extra money from mug punters FA Cup semi finals' as bona fide trips to Wemberlee? Semi final trips aren't earnt, it's just a recent dodge to make more money. Saints have featured in more FA Cup semi finals than your level 3 outfit but in those days you had to earn a trip to Wembley.
Erm - Semi final trips are earnt - you have to win the quarter final to get there - did someone say Man Utd at Old Trafford? Don't ignore the facts!
Sorry mike , only my opinion but FA Cup semi finals should be at neutral grounds like the old days. This season proves it even more with Liverpool v Everton on Sat morning And Chelsea v Spurs Sunday night ( with Champions league game on Tues night ) is bloody crazy. Old Trafford and Emirates hold 70,000 Wembley is for Cup finals only in my book.
I see what Sa1nts is saying though, they are playing all the semis at Wembley now, to screw us over with outrageous prices and draconian rules to force you to buy the overpriced, (let's face it garage forecourt refreshments at best) muck they have on sale. "Oh but you get a day out at Wembley, even if you only make the semi final!"
Oh - I didn't say I disagreed - I say bring back the days where both Semi Finals are played on the same day on neutral grounds - and bring back semi final replays also - that night at Villa Park is etched in my mind! But the fact is, we have been to the new Wembley, 5 times as corrected, on our own merits. Even with the "bought" cup final, no one gave us any chance at Old Trafford in the quarters, and I think everyone wrote us off in the relegation season from the Prem.
