I've found a list of all the footballers whose contracts are set to expire at the end of this season: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/spieler/vertragsende/basics_GB1_2012.html

I think most Saints fans would agree that, assuming we go up this season, five or six signings this summer would be necessary in achieving the clubs ambitions of not only avoiding relegation from the Premier League next season, but pushing towards being an established mid-table side. It seems that there are plenty of players in this list who could make fine additions to the squad, and signing any one of them on a free transfer would be a fine bit of business indeed.

Names that have immediately jumped out at me include Paul Scharner, Nicky Shorey, James McFadden, Ritchie De Laet and Michael Kightly. If we're being very ambitious, then the likes of Josh McEachran, Danny Guthrie, Tuncay Sanli and Ryo Miyaichi could be available. And Gylfi Sigurdsson anyone? Maybe not.

Still, there are plenty of other names there, and the website has dozens of other leagues you can look through as well. Discuss!

Most of those are loans expiring, I think.

A lot of them are, yes, but I think they're worth discussing anyway because you would imagine most of them aren't in the first team plans of their parent clubs and could become available after returning, either on loan or transfer listed. Speaking of which, I've noticed that Joseph Yobo will be returning to Everton from Fenerbahce. He'd be good.

True, plus Drenthes contract is up at Madrid as well, he is a very pacey winger. I also saw Jay Rod and (I really don't think we will get them) but Farfan and Raul!?

I noticed Farfán and also perhaps Tranquillo Barnetta? That'd be fantastic, but probably not that realistic. Raúl might be retiring?

    Joe Cole?!

Barnetta was wanted by Manure and Arsenal not that long ago. Andreas Weimann as a backup striker?

For us it looks like only Connolly, Bart, and Jaidi and the end of their contract.

I'm hoping Bart gets a new deal, as it'd make more sense than having to sign a new backup goalkeeper.

My goodness, I can't believe how old some of those guys are. They were only whipper-snappers the last time I checked..!

Mind you there was one player I did notice and dear le god, never let us ever, ever, even remotely think about the possibly, of lifting the phone receiver and dialling the number of the agent of... Rory Delap. <laugh>

There are some quality players there who i think we could get. Scharner is versitile and has premier league experience. Nicky Shorey would be reliable cover for Fox. Craig Gordan would solve the goalkeeping dilemma. Bassong would be good at Centre Back too

Loan Birmingham Davis for Foster like West Brom did...?

EDIT: I immediately withdraw this statement. Davis has done far too much for this club to be treated like that

Apparently Davis and Jaidi already have future roles lined up for when they retire.

    <ok>

I'm guessing Jaidi will be starting that role next season.

No way because we couldn't get him, or no way because he's not good enough?
