I'm amazed that you typed that on the Iphone. You'd win gold if it was an Olympic sport <laugh>

I accept the ticketing was a joke but that was genius for marketing purposes. Instead of empty seats in the Archery people have paid for them already unwittingly thus protecting organisers from a large economic loss. As shown on this forum people bitch and moan about not getting tickets and dismiss other sports through ignorance. The skill in diving and gymnastics is worth witnessing but if you alreday have lcosed your mind to it, then the Olympics are not for you.

When the bill come in then judge the olympics. I wonder if the riots were cheaper to stage?

Th whole point is so many of you have fallen for the hysteria of the negatives, the positives are there in abundance and only the lazy, the hysterics, and the unpatriotic want to sit and home and rather watch Trisha.[/QUOTE]

I can assure you mate, and with the greatest respect, that I am none of the above. I'm just not interested. But I am being forced to be. And I'm being personally inconvenienced! My wife feels the same way about football. She is irrational but I take her point when the world cup is on.

I can see the positives. In my own opinion to which I am entitled they are outweighed by the negatives. I hope I am proved completely wrong.

Our rioters are world-class, it must be said.

But then again, with the hurt of hopelessness and disenfranchisement willing them on, it is no surprise they are so good.

    Ask SIG, he will concur.

I'm not going to write an essay on why I'm against the Olympics - I don't care about its economic effect, or its effect on tourism and immigration, I simply don't want it because:
    a) I have no interest in the Olympics
    b) Its going to be a major inconvenience for getting around
    c) Its apparantly going to interfere with games at The Valley

And considering the above therefore (as well as the fact that I'm sure many thousands or millions feel the same) I do not want to have to pay for such an event.

    Simples.

It's the double standards that get me. I was at Thames Water HQ two weeks ago on business. I asked how bad the drought situation really is. Trust me - you don't want to know the answer!!!! But there will be standpipes in the streets before we turn the hoses off at the Olympic park. The amount of water consumed directly as a result of the Olympics is absolutely astounding. I could quote statistics but I won't. Just take my word for it. But trafalger Square fountains will be on during the Olympics so that the world out there does not realise we have a problem! It's a fcucking joke!

Funny - you're the second person to say this in a week. I also got told about some of the over flooding at some point in London (not sure where, this was on Thurs and I've lost copious amounts of brain cells since), and trust me, you don't want to know what the level of excrement was :emoticon-0127-lipss:emoticon-0107-sweat<yikes>:emoticon-0119-puke::emoticon-0119-puke::emoticon-0119-puke::emoticon-0119-puke:

the olympics coming here wont change people or inspire them to be better people. the whole "you've become a lefty" or "you've bought in to the negatives too much and not focused on the positives" are the polar opposites of those who believe this will "reinvigorate people", "boost our economy" or "inspire a nation". people who believe that have also swallowed a whole bunch of hype and a well written speech.

try not being 7.5 billion over budget already and then i will believe all three of them pro's!

I'm going to Wimbledon this year so that will be my fill of sports i don't really care for. Spend the rest of the summer outside, away from television and away from london. That's the doomed plan.

Why should I want the olympics to be here? I don't care about a single event there.

    Positives : None for me.

Negatives: Costs money when already in debt.
    Disrupts travel to an extent.

For all the people that don't care about the olympics, which I'd argue is quite probably a majority..the olympics are a negative.

    What is more important -

Spending billions fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan?

Or being able to say that we hosted the great Eritrean Handball team?

Money doesn't always have to be spent on boring stuff.

Obviously some of you are so self absorbed that if you can't kick it or eat it then your not interested. The Olympics are very important for world order and for the first time in 70 years come here and you still find it inconvenient. You complain about the cost but do not have any evidence that it will be a failure but are willing it to be. Quite what your views would be on a world cup are unclear but I imagine that would be ok cos you like it.
Just watch the Paralympic basketball or the blind competing in the marathon they are real athletes and deserve the stage. If one of you that miss your train think your inconvenienced then Go shopping with your eyes closed then tell me about inconvenience.

What if they make a profit? Create local jobs and tourism? What if they stand as a testament to sporting endeavour and British management? Have you evidence that they won't.

When taking costs of stadiums into account, the interest paid on the loans needed to build them, the disruption to London's business' over the period and all the running costs, I really do doubt they'll result in a profit. Even when taking into account the jobs created and tourism provided.

As for "stand as a testament to sporting endeavour and British management" it once comes back to the "I really don't give a ****".

Now,now girls, getting a bit tetchy are we?

I love the Olympics - gives me a chance to watch the Brazilian Womens Beach Volleyball team yum, yum.
Oh, and also, the father of a daughter who i hope will compete (but not in a sport that pays 100 grand a week) in the Rio Olympics- wow, what a proud Dad i would be then !

Cant believe all the negativity. Embrace it, its a chance to show off your country, our heritage and what is great about our City - forget you cant park your car in the car park or whos financing it for just 2 weeks, be happy, smile to foreign visitors, show them the qualities of London and Londoners.Dont be negative all the time. Enjoy it - it will never happen again in your lifetime.

And yes, i do have tickets for Water Polo and Hockey !

Typical, you appear to fail to understand that some people being "not interested" is the very point that we're trying to make.

If London were to host the 2012 Horticultural Championships, or the 2012 World Crossdressing Extravaganza, and it meant that doing so would cause major disruptions to your journey to and from work every day, as well as creating a 'temporary' eyesore outside your window and the whole thing being funded out of the taxes you pay, you would probably be pretty annoyed about doing so, presumably because, as far as I'm aware, you're not that into crossdressing and gardening (well maybe the latter but my imaginations a bit stumped today).
