Comedian Alan Davies is facing a backlash from fans after mocking Liverpool's insistence that they never play on the anniversary of Hillsborough.

The 46-year-old, talking on 'The Tuesday Club', was discussing Liverpool's insistence on playing city rivals Everton this coming Saturday in the FA Cup semi-finals.

It means Chelsea must play their semi-final with Tottenham on the Sunday even though this comes just three days before their Champions League first leg clash with Barcelona.

Davies said: 'Liverpool and the 15th - that gets on my tits that s***. What are you talking about "We won’t play on the day"? Why can’t they?'

The podcast presenter Ian Stone attempted to reason with Davies by saying: ‘Because it’s too sad a memory.’

However, the TV star responded: 'Do they play on the date of the Heysel Stadium disaster? How many dates do they not play on?

'Do Man United play on the date of Munich? Do Rangers play on the date when all their fans died in that disaster whatever year that was - 1971?'

Read the rest from the link. He also goes after Kenny too. What do you guys think, should Liverpool continue to avoid this date or move on? There are better ways of expressing yourself than what Alan Davies did, but i can understand both points of view.

they should move on. already, because of this, they have affected chelsea a lot more, as they have champions league commitments. it was sad yes, but honour it by playing well on that day. because they refuse to, chelsea have even less chance of progressing in the CL, while liverpool have nothing midweek to stop them playing on sunday.

The scousers are feckin martyrs , thats why they are all wringing their hands about the date.
    Its a joke.

I have said this before on the chelsea forums when they were discussing it (and got flamed , like i give a f@ck) .

If all the other teams with tragic incidents insisted on NOT playing then Liverpool would insist on PLAYING .

They like to to think they are special , and have therefore to be different . they absolutely cant be like any other club .

It like some moral mourning victory over the other clubs.

"pfff , you play on the anniversary of your disaster , WE would never do that , WE are liverpool . "

Davies is right , they are just being w@nkers .

    What a complete hatchet job.

It's a comedy podcast! It's a comedy podcast, FOR Arsenal fans BY arsenal fans! jumping on him calling the people who run Spurs scum and vermin is just desperation for controversy.

Can someone explain how it mocks the dead to mock the idea a specific day should become sacrosanct? I especially like how they omitted the point about him working on the anniversary of the day his mother died. That would only create sympathy, which thy don't want.

Although not the way I would've worded it, this does sum up Liverpool quite nicely.

They love to think they still have some kind of power that they accumulated back in the 80's. Just look at Queen Kenny and the way he treated the Suarez incident - acting like they were the victims and that the league owed them something.

And the whole 'you'll never walk alone' bollox. Poor Hodgson sure walked alone when he was their manager.

I'm sure I could come up with 365 historical disasters meaning I could never work and people should just appreciate that and pay me anyway. It's insensitive not to.

You have to draw the line. A minute of silence in a packed stadium is greater tribute than sitting on your arse at home.

We(the club, the manager and players, supporters and more importantly the families of the 96)hold a multi-denominational religious service/mass at Anfield at 3.05pm on the 15th of April, and its been that way since 1990.

If Davies or the rest of you have a problem with that you should contact the FA with your complaint.

Might just do that. It's ridiculous that you get to dictate when you play to another team's severe disadvantage.

Perhaps as football fans we should show some respect to fellow football fans.
