Read elsewhere that we are not allowed a home fixture during the Olympics or Paralympics. That rules out a home fixture till early/mid September. Good news if you are on holiday in august but a bit of a bummer starting with at least three away fixtures. I personally couldn't give a monkeys tit about the Olympics but am prepared to be persuaded that I may be in the minority. But how in the name of the Mahoochie Man's Granny do our games affect the Olympics? It can't be an attendance issue - if you're going to the olympics you have your tickets already! Is it a transport thing? If so what else will they ban for those weeks? And how does it work for the premier teams? Arsenal and spurs can't play at home on the same day. Fixture chaos later! What a load of nonsense if true. The world has gone bonkers!
Hopefully it means 3 sell out away games! I'm sure all fans will be desperate to see any new players signed, and how the teams starts. I haven't read about that, but I believe that will probably be the situation. Shame, would have been fun to have had some bodies from other countries coming to see a game at The Valley. Although I'm sure 70% of our fans would hate it.
Usually these types of decisions are made because of Policing reasons, if true, then i would suspect this would be the same- and would expect it would be the same for other London clubs.
I hadn't heard this either - quite ridiculous and unnecessary IMO, and not exactly the best start to our life in the Championship. ALSO, presumably in connection with that Olympics monstrosity being built on Woolwich Common, Ha-Ha Road is going to be closed for the rest of the season, which is going to seriously restrict the speed of getting away from the ground after the Wycombe and Hartlepool games. No laughing matter (Ha-Ha, geddit?)*. *Yes, I do know what a Ha-Ha is...
It's a hideous asymmetrical white structure with what appear to be multi-coloured suckers all over it - a sort of cross between the Stay-Puft Man from Ghostbusters and a psychedelic octopus without tentacles. Across the road from it is a huge, semi-circular piece of very intricate scaffolding which must be screwing up TV reception for miles. I think they're going to be holding underwater fencing, naked polo and formation dwarf-throwing there - whatever they're going to be using it for, the 'legacy' of this particular site is going to be one bloody enormous blot on the landscape.
They say that Londoners are 100% behind the Olympics.....he's news for the organisers.... I piggin hate the idea of them being held in London, I hate the idea of all that money being wasted and I hate being forced to pay for them from my rates !!!!! The Met have said that no football should be played in London during the Olympics/Para Olympics due to the fact that ALL police officers will be busy in East London. So if you are a criminal then anywhere outside Stratford should be easy pickings
I'm going to watch the mountain-biking at Hadleigh Castle in Essex. I was given the tickets by a friend of a friend.
I too have tickets for the mountain biking, Ponders! I didn't know it was actually in Essex, assumed it was at the velodrome . But I do have tickets for the velodrome, a 2pm slot (I think) for athletics and my brother got the Volleyball which I think I'll go to also. Quite excited to be honest - can't imagine the Olympics coming back in my lifetime.
Yep, Hadleigh Castle, SuperC. I was up there recently on a visit to see Ducker in Canvey Island. It is a beautiful ruin of Edward the 3rd's favourite residence. The views across the estuary and North Kent are sublime so take a camera! I take it you will be watching the women's volleyball...? I can't understand people getting on a downer about the Olympics. I am well excited about it all.
If it was the mens I wouldn't be interested. I've also been reliably informed that the Brazilian squad (inc Volleyball) will be based in Crystal Palace and be using the park and athletics stadium to practice.
Watch out for the Russian team, though, Stu! You can clearly see where they are hiding their Old Holborn.
