I think that I can be fairly certain that Drogba is not on LFC's list of targets for the Summer - thank goodness!
Oh dear, someone is angry with life because they didn't make the most of their education as a boy. JPF why don't you just be grateful of the £40m we gave you to build a squad to get you where you are now.
The thread is called Realistic Targets. Didier Drogba is a realistic target for LFC right now. He would strengthen a particularly weak area, is a very strong character, available at £10M-ish, and he would probably come. Long term, of course he isn't the answer, but if we are talking about signings that would make you a stronger candidate to finish 4th, he is certainly one I would suggest. It's all very well setting your sights higher/younger, you are not there yet, in order to get there, Drogba makes a lot of sense.
Would want too high a wage deal, and he isn't the same player from even a year ago. So we'd have another aging player we increasingly couldn't play week in week out on high wages. Nah....we don't want to become a retirement home.
The reason I believe it would take three years, is this; To go from where you are , to Premier League Title contenders, will take more than one step. Drogba may not be, is not in fact, a medium to long term solution, but he is someone who could help you get into the Champions League. And once you get back in the CL, you can recruit at a higher level.
I would have paid the money for Musa, but I think it would be twice what CSK paid for him now! Pace, 2 footed, play anywhere up front. Not proven though I suppose....
Aiming higher/younger doesn't necessarily mean looking for players at teams who are currently higher than us. There is some very good quality about at smaller teams around Europe, Drogba will not get us top 4...he is barely helping Chelsea get top 4 with a better more experienced first 11 now isn't he?
I am sure if you ask Chelsea Fans whether they would be higher up the League had they not played Torres by default, and played Players on merit, Drogba would have played far more, and Chelsea would not be struggling to secure 4th.
I understand your point but it is about taking each stage at a time. If, by buying a 34 year old, it helps us acheive the first step of getting into the Champions League, then it would help attract better players as well as free up the funds to be able to spend the money that would be required. So, although i agree a 34 year old is not a long term solution, they could help build the club for three years time. Edit: I have no scrolled very far back so i don't know who the 34 year old is. I was only commenting on your response
Liverpool are **** but their reputation as a club and money they will throw at players is always a concern, however they are one or two windows away from utter disaster. If I was a Liverpool fan I'd think twice about buying Ba, Tiote or any Newcastle player because they will cost big money and if they don't reach the same heights well.
It's hard not to agree with the superiority humour theory when you read such moronic responses... I mean, there are several reasons why you may like another club... 1. The team play good football 2. You are into fashion or like the slimming effect of the kit colours 3. You have friends who support that team 4. You like the area 5. You enjoy banter with the opposition fans Now, I can have absolutely no affect on any of the first three, unless I happen to have wronged one of your friends, in which case the residual anger being displayed at the object is merely an inadequate reflection of your feelings because your communication skills are too under-developed to form an appropriate response... And I definitely have not committed terror or vandlism, so we can strike off four as well. The last seems impossible, because you have no banter, just a wallowing self-pity attitude more common of constant victims (are you Granny Kenny by any chance?!?), not football forum chat... Therefore I can only conclude you are conforming to the standard position within the group dynamic in an effort to feel a valued member of any rebuttal. Unfortunately, your back-up is also terrible... I mean, insulting my education without even knowing me (I'm actually immensely proud of my university education thanks for asking)? At least I added the "some" qualification. That all defining outburst is more common of **** theory, than Kant. It's a thinly veiled alpha-male aggression, and thus I feel sorry Zingy represents the wit of the board with such! The ultimate irony, of course, is that I have been deemed by you spokesman of the club with one half-hearted post and one neat put-down. More to this, I have been so chosen as a disgrace, whereas the vast majority of Liverpool players and fans openly and freely launched vitriolic attacks against anyone who rightly called Suarez racist. Enjoy the rest of your day, I suggest you take it to uncover some of that "stereotypical" Scouse wit.
why not bring that massive wallet of yours back up to the North East again? We have a couple players you could buy at bargain knockdown prices. Peter Lovenkrands - £20m, Leon Best - £25m. Hell, why not go for Alan Smith, a snip at only £30m. Or if you wanted to spend big money, I'm sure we'd sell you Xisco for a mere £50m
Admit it, you wrote this out; proof read it and re-wrote it a couple of times before posting didn't you? No shame; it's GCSE level training & you've been to Uni after all! Slightly puzzled at so great an effort to appear educated. Ruined completely of course by the childish name calling and completely irrelevant inclusion of a half constructed criticism using the Suarez incident as "evidence" for yet another sweeping generalisation. Oh look, some one else can string sentences together. We're both still talking Sh*te of course. The only difference is, I'm making the effort on a board concerning my chosen football team among other like minded individuals whereas you are not. And Kant??? For heavens sake mate, are you STILL in Uni?
A decent price for a decent player. Dalglish must have been having an off day when he sanctioned that move. Thankfully he made up for it with the cunning signings of Henderson, Downing, and Carrol. By the way, if you ever bump into Enrique, please do mention to him that Newcastle are in the top 6
