Just watching FLS there seems to be a rash of straight red cards for mad tackles today. Anyone who has seen a few of my posts on here will know that I feel there are many ways that cheating or dirty players should be punished to stamp out the problems in the game.

I think something should be done about players and teams who are especially dirty. How many red cards have Leeds and Leicester had this season? A few of them for last-man tackles but some of them have been absolutely wild tackles that could have broken legs. Also in the PL the other day Balotelli on Song was one of the worst I've ever seen, it could have been sickening and all because he's a bit ****ed up in the head. You get the odd one where someone just gets carried away but there are repeat offenders. My question is, should there be greater punishments handed to players or teams with particularly bad tackling records? Looking at Leeds under Warnock in particular it's just dangerous the way he's got them playing. I don't see why players like Karacan at Reading should have to cope with months out of action with broken legs just because it's the only way people like Warnock know how to set up their team.

For the record, I think teams who do all this time wasting and 'head injuries' nonsense in away games should be punished too but this tackling thing should be a priority because good, honest players are missing big chunks of football when it's completely avoidable. It should be stamped out.

I'd be inclined to go with banning players who are guilty of reckless tackles for however long the player they've injured is out for. You'd have to have a more consistent panel ruling on reckless tackles than we've got now before it would work though.

The best bit of that would be that if there was an appeal it wouldn't matter how long it took to hear, because if the injured player misses 3 games before the appeal the ban just carries on 3 games after he's fit.

Injuries happen and can't be ruled out completely but for example the Reading Leeds game the other day, there were a few absolutely awful tackles by Leeds players before Brown went and scissored Karacan's legs and broke his ankle. Then two days later the same thing again. These kind of injuries can't be stopped altogether but when it's completely avoidable like this and all because certain managers and teams get their players playing the complete wrong way and don't teach them to tackle properly (get back to me if James Chester ever gets caught tackling like this for example, he won't). In the PL a coule of years ago Danny Murphy came out and moaned about Pulis, Allardyce and McCarthy setting their players out to hurt people and it was absolutely spot on based on the tackles at the time. For about 3 years in a row there have been battles between Karl Henry at Wolves and Joey Barton because McCarthy wanted to hurt Barton so he could wind him up and try to make him do something silly. How can that be allowed? Risking a player's health and potentially career just in the hope they might smack someone? It's disgusting tactics.

That's why I would have the panel ruling on reckless tackles after the game. Assuming you've got your red card for the tackle you've got a minimum suspension anyway, but the panel could rule to extend it to "injury length" if it was considered a malicious/reckless challenge. When it comes to Ballotelli you issue retrospective red cards as they do now for some things that are missed, and if they do that it then gets referred to the panel to see if it's reckless as well or just a missed red card.

If they looked at Balotelli that other match he might have got a couple of red cards retrospectively.

I thought they were going to look at it? As far as I know the FA haven't been open for business to deal with even scheduling hearings since Thursday.

The first one he should have been straight off but the daft lad just kept trying to add to it, I love Balotelli for his antics and skill but he is a disgrace as a footballer the way he lets his team down.

Sorry but Brown's tackle was perfectly legitimate he won the ball, then got his leg afterwards. If Ash had done that you an us all would have been jumping for joy. Proper enforcers tackle.

I haven't seen it yet, but it doesn't matter whether you get the ball first or not. It's whether you don't have control through out, and whether your tackle is reckless to the point where it threatens an injury. It's a red card if either applies.

If it is dangerous and reckless it doesn't matter whether he got the ball as he broke someone's leg.

The FA have coped out, the match report indicates that one of the match officials saw the incident so cannot hand out retrospective punishment.
If an official saw that tackle and thought it was an OK,I think he should receive a ban

They've also decided that Derry's "foul" against Man U was correctly given as a red card. <doh>

I'm glad I said above that they need to be more consistent in determining fouls and things before they could introduce the "injury suspensions"

If the only way he can tackle the lad is by scissoring him like that then he simply shouldn't be playng the game. The worst thing is he has a reputation for being one of the dirtiest players around and yet no one can do anything about it. If it's a young lad who gets a rush of blood and does something silly fair enough, but a veteran like Brown who has made a living from injuring people getting away with it time and time again, it just isn't right. Managers that tell their players to do this are just ****ed in the head.

Crazy tackle that. It wasn't dangerous though he just hit him side on. My point is more about the usual suspects repeat offending and them being allowed to carry on doing it. Like I say you can't cut out bad tackles completely but something should be done about these same players who do it over and over again and it's their main game plan.

That Derry red card should have been rescinded, if there was any contact at all it was so minimal, watching the game I thought it should have been a yellow at best.

I criticise refs a hell of a lot for stupid easy decisions that they **** about with but there are a lot of things that could be made easier for them. This spate of recent straight red tackles has also led to some wrongly issued cards to innocent players which is bound to happen, the refs are only human. But if as Ricardo suggests a panel could decide on these incidents or if the ref could be helped in any other way it would let him concentrate on not giving a defensive free kick every time we attack.

It was given as a red card as he was seen to be denying a clear goal scoring opportunity. The fact it wasn't a foul is the laughable bit. They should also have gone with "exceptional circumstances" like Blackburn with their violent conduct red card and said that had the Man U player been onside then it wouldn't have been a clear goalscoring opportunity as there'd have been other players in position.
