LR - I agree mostly. But some other European countries are far too happy to stand back and let the UK do the donkey work then take partial credit if it goes well or denounce us if it goes tits-up. Helping these countries should be a given, not something that you do because it will be popular with voters. I'm happy that the UK is striving to make the world a bit safer for those who live in ****ty places. It's a global responsibility though. A lot of European countries think throwing money at a problem will solve it. When in reality in the most corrupt countries all that does is further ingratiate those with the power and makes them harder to depose.
where's the recent intervention in Darfur, intervention in Israel or the questioning of Musharifs military coup in Pakistan? Some deeds are done on humanitarian grounds but most deeds are for the security and direct benefit of the nation - if something wrong happens that strengthens your position then the state will turn a blind eye, such as Musharif being an ally for the war in Afghanistan and Gadafi coming back into the international scene after we realised there was huge amounts of oil in Libya.
Where would everyone say they stand in terms of politics? I'm quite left wing in some of my views but completely militant in others. I don't really believe you can be totally left or right wing if you're a rational and mostly sane person. Immigration is probably the most contentious subject regarding this. I believe immigration is essential to the UK (and more importantly Scotland) but at the same time I'm dismayed by how easy it has been in recent years to get into Britain. Why couldn't immigration be done like it was in the 50's and 60's where we brought people in who were skilled or semi-skilled? The UK has a reputation for being a metropolitan Country. But we have to strive for controlled and needed immigration of peoples from nations who are willing to integrate into our society. I'm against allowing any mass immigration from the Middle East as Shia Muslims have no interest in benefitting the UK. Only themselves are their antiquated laws. Eastern Europeans though, lets get loads of those ****ers in. They like a bevvy and work hard too.
further proof of the British Empire now actually being the American Empire - look a look at the 1920 map of the British Empire vs the 2003 Map of countries that host American military bases. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
totally agree mick, the fact that we did nothing about darfur but invaded iraq is a joke because of iraq/afghan the uk doesnt have the resources to carry out something like that. as i've said before i agree with afghan but not iraq, you know that if darfur was sitting on top of the 3rd largest oil reserves in the world we'd be there like a tramp on chips as for israel we should be sanctioning the ****s, but if you do that to them you have to do the same to the palestinians. i'd just nuke them both and start again at least it'd give trident something to do. pakistan is a mental place, the thing is its so fragmented what do you do? impose sanctions?

Muir, you've got to watch because the BBC can get fined if they leave stuff up that favours one party over another even if the content was created by someone not employed by the Beeb. They are still responsible for hosting it. Be funny if that thread somehow became a national ****-storm. Knowing the UK; I wouldn't be surprised.
i'm liberal in that i believe in good public services and that you should pay for it but think that part of the benefits system are too soft and are abused. i like a bit of war in my foreign policy but only as outlined earlier in the thread. i'd be harder on crime (or at least sentencing). i'd try and move away (partly) from the amount of centralised gov. happy enough with imigration as long as they're working and paying tax. i'd castrate matt dawson and burn out his eyes.
I like your Matt Dawson policy. If you were running for PM that'd be the clincher for me. ****ing ridiculous crime sentencing in this country. The boy the other day who only got 7 years for taking a machete to a father and son because of a row in a pub. That **** should have had 15 with a minimum 10 to be served. That's what I mean about left or right though. If you choose one side then you're never going to be completely happy with the way the country is run. Labour have been good for School and Hospital infrastructure as we've had more new builds in the last 13 years than we had from the Tories in 17 years. But their stance on crime, especially violent crime is a joke. Any attack with a lethal weapon should be 10 years minimum. No matter how minimal the injuries are.
I'm to the left although a lot less to the left than I used to be (no shirvelled cock jokes). Getting a bit of dough and older will always make you slightly more conservative though. I'm anti abortion and pro euthanasia, not on religious but moral grounds - I just believe that a person has the right to live and to choose to die, no one else has the right to make the decision for someone else on both counts. I'm not a pacifist, I don't believe there are enough resources to go around in the world and you have to be proactive in securing security for yourself (security, not greed). The only thing I want is honesty, don't tell us your being friendly with Ghadafi because he's turned into a nice guy, we all know the truth so just tell us straight that this relationship will make us richer - which is hopefully the truth. I don't like the 'hollier than thou' sentiment among a lot of people. Britain dropped bombs from the air on Iraq - I imagine in the eyes of god he wouldn't see a difference between that and planting car bombs. Both kill people, including a lot of civilians. The 'proudness' of some people towards their own army - yet disgust towards terrorism or other armies is pure hypocrisy. I hate people who have a sense of entitlement, be it posh English land owning ****s who turn their nose up at you because of your accent - or dole spongers who complain because funny coloured people have the audacity to claim benefits too. I hate the Daily Mail and people who read the Daily Mail - lower middle class conservative ****s.
