Because it makes absolutely no sense to devout your life to something in which you don't care if it's true or not? I love Astronomy, I'd drop my job in gambling and become an Astronomer tomorrow if I was smart enough and it paid. I am particularly interested in the possibility of life outside the Earth, I'd happy devote my life to it. I might not know if it actually exists but I'd certainly care enough to try find out.

That would be a good argument if Earth was the only planet in the universe. However, you're conveniently ignoring the billions of planets where your 'God' ****ed up. Simple laws of statistics say that, with that many chances, at least one of them's going to come up trumps.

There is no evidence to suggest the universe is infinite. And even if it was that doesn't mean there could be an infinite number of planets. If you had an infinite hotel with an infinite number of rooms and an infinite number of guests and a new guest turned up which room would you put him in?
