Bruce signed them for a combined cost of over £10 million and even he wouldn't play them. It's hardly fair to criticize O'Neill for having been lumbered with these players.... They just arn't good enough to the extent that O'Neill is reluctant to start them when our main striker (who is on loan, thanks Bruce, is injured). This is one of the reasons why Bruce was sacked.... We don't have anywhere near enough depth or quality within our strikers. Wickham could do with being loaned back to the championship and Ji could do with a year in the Korean military to sharpen him up.
Am I the only one who thinks Gardner is distinctly average? Would make a better right back than cm, we brought him for goals from midfield and even those have dried up. He doesn't get his head up when he goes forward, passing is average and fouls consistently.
I agree 100% been saying this for weeks. He'll be off in the summer I reckon (hope) anyway, then we can get a proper CM who can score and pass.
totally mons fault today! hope he holds his hands up, bruce was slaughtered for the same reason so why not mon??? sess should play a free role not a target man, if ji and wickham arent good enough they shouldnt be on the bench simple as that!!! very very dissapionted
The big problem is MON's lack of good options upfront. MON obviously thinks Ji and Wickham are not ready and has already said they would have gone out on loan if we had a bigger squad. Saying the are crap is harsh/unfair, as neither of them have had a run of games. They need to be loaned out. I dont think MON got it wrong today, cos I dont think he had much choice.
We are miles better off, under Mon than previous managers, lets see what will happen after the transfer window. statistics are meant to be broken, ok so not today, but under Mon who knows, reminder how many points did we amass under the last manager, and how many since with an inhiratated team?
That can't be right mate, that would mean that in the whole time O'Neill has been manager, we've got futher away from them <scratch>
It's not asthough O'Neill inherited the most fantastic strikers in the world... Our main striker is here on loan, our second striker has just came back from 2 years of injuries and is injured again, our third and fourth strikers arn't even good enough to start. We end up playing an attacking midfielder upfront for most of the season.... Can we have our £10 million back please Steve?
No good slating wickham or Ji. cannot get into a game where your already losing and getting 10 mins here and there. Give them a couple of games each to find out what he thinks. Unless he already has deals lined up for the summer. The man F*CKED up today big style. we now appear to be getting hammered away from home and not just beat. We slated Brucie for the Brighton game, MON has done exactly the same today. Stated in an earlier post (before the match started) that i would rather go for 3 points than 1. Really really p*ssed off tonight. Still happy we have MON but like syd says he gets the credit he also carries the can for the utter utter sh*te served up today.
Main problem is Ji and Wickham aren't good enough (I reckon Wickham will be, but no Ji) and we've no ****ing strikers. Something MON should've addressed in Jan. Summer we need: 2 proven strikers - Not to play both but to allow rotation. One who is proven in prem and 1 star player 2 CMs - An attacking minded one and a defensive minded one. PASSING ABILITY IS A MUST 2 wingers - to add some desperately needed depth on the wings 1 CB - Depth needed there 1 LB - Possibly Bridge but that needs to be sorted 1 RB - Back-up and competition for Bardo Will we get all of those? I Highly doubt it, but it's what we need IMO
15 points deficit after 13 games and then Bruce was sacked. 2 more points after another 20 games with the same squad and a different manager. O'Neill has done wonders with what he inherited. We lack depth and quality and I'm looking forward to the summer when the club can strengthen up.
who the **** should be on the bench then (strikers)? Poor options are better than no options. Bruce brought in 2 strikers that he must of known wouldnt be ready, and MON is stuck with them until he can buy this summer. I am not blaming MON for the previous managers mistakes. Syd, I am not sure how Wickham should be better than Sess by himself? You say MON is the manager and it is up to him to decide, and he decided Sess is a better option by himself than Wickham. Surely that tells us all we need to know?
