It is a very hard rule to get right. If the ball was played by a saints player then i would think it has to be offside. But i did not see who it was. There must have been something for the official to change his mind and effectively admit he was wrong.

Having finally found "The Laws of the Game", I'm just as confused - they clearly state that the offence still stands where the ball rebounds from an opposition player. Mind you, the document has Septic Bladder's name on it, so who knows? :(

Think I'll give up and forget about it now, it's giving me a headache.

Exactly, Dan. I would suggest that the linesman put his flag up to indicate that Sharp was in an offside position.

The question from the ref to the lino must have been, "Did you see the ball played by a Saints player?". Lino says no, therefore Sharp cannot be offside from a corner or from the defender's deflection. However, only having seen the incident once from an awkward angle, I cannot verify if a Saints player did flick the ball on to Sharp as many others are saying in this thread.

If the Saints player did flick it on, then the decision is incorrect and the goal should have been ruled out for offside.

H, can you please explain the offside to them. We all know that only women understand that rule .

With pleasure BB, in the best way i know how ;)

You're in a shoe shop, second in the queue for the till. Behind the shop assistant on the till is a pair of shoes which you have seen and which you must have.
The female shopper in front of you has seen them also and is eyeing them with desire. Both of you have forgotten your purses.
It would be rude to push in front of the first woman if you had no money to pay for the shoes.
The shop assistant remains at the till waiting.
Your friend is trying on another pair of shoes at the back of the shop and sees your dilemma.
She prepares to throw her purse to you.
If she does so, you can catch the purse, then walk round the other shopper and buy the shoes!
At a pinch she could throw the purse ahead of the other shopper and "whilst it is in flight" you could nip around the other shopper, catch the purse and buy the shoes!
BUT, you must always remember that until the purse has "actually been thrown", it would be plain wrong for you to be in front of the other shopper and you would be OFFSIDE!

    Nice try, but.........

If there is only a shop assistant between the goal and both shoppers, surely they are both offside regardless of which one catches the purse? :)

But then wouldn't that shopper move to the back of the line in order to put the other one in an offside position? ;)
