Roberto Mancini on Manchester City future and title race

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger , meanwhile, believes United will win a 20th title because they have men who can deliver when it comes to "money time".

Wenger remains impressed by their ability to dig out results when not firing on all cylinders.

"Manchester United are surprisingly in a comfortable position, no-one expected them to be because they did not look absolutely irresistible this year," he said.

"You could see that again on Monday night against Blackburn, but they managed to win the game.

"If Manchester United make it to the title, it is really down to experience."

Wenger added: "At Blackburn when [Ryan] Giggs came on in the last 15 minutes you thought 'they can only win it now' because they know how to deal with the money time, that means the last 15 minutes in football when it is 0-0."

One of the things Wenger said in this was that in the closing stages United's defence remains strong and does not suffer from nerves, whic his exactly the opposite of our defence in clsoing stages of games in the last few years.

Personally, I think it has a lot to do with the the mental strength of the individuals working together. PErhaps that is where SAF has won out in his ability to pick out "strong" players, rather than the pure technocrats that Wenger tends to favour.

I think manchester United do have the experience but how many other teams do? Manchester City do have Veterans in their side; the Toures are hardly spring chickens, but they apparently do not have experience. Chelsea despite all their old timers do not have experience either, I guess, or else experience alone is insufficient.

The implication here is, all other things being reasonably equal, experience will win. Not that experience will always win.

  5. Is your big revelation here that experience will not always win?
    Is that not completely obvious?

Please give it a rest - just constant personal attacks on me every time I post.

  7. How is that a personal attack? <laugh>

I just found your post to have no point.

It certainly had a lot more than yours did. You keep saying I am condescending but when I dont spell it out for you, you say I have no point!

  9. Look - you spent all that effort to tell us that sometimes experience doesn't win! For god's sake, you're a bright bloke, spend your time on something interesting.

I think you are being a little harsh on me, however I had two main points.

    1. That, as you say, experience is not the only factor.
    2. That experience as a team seems to be also key, after all Man City do have experienced players.

I also think Wenger was having a dig at Man City and implying that you can buy players who have played a lot, and put them together, but that isn't the experience that counts.

  11. Maybe.

I think Wenger was talking about the club from staff through to players. Some of the City players have experience, but as a club this is new to them - and it is showing. SAF knows what to do - not just for games, but during the week and how to deal with the media.

City mouthing off, making films about themselves, putting up posters, and generally acting as if they are hot **** just heaps pressure on themselves. They have played it all wrong, and that's a lack of experience as a club.
