Although I disagree with Bill's original post I have no problem with him posting it. I know it's a football forum but I like some of the off topic stuff. If it doesn't interest me I don't read. I'm sure Bill is also big enough to take the varied replies, it being a forum you have the right to reply so I don't see the problem.
Spot on Tony, but it has been viewed over 700 times, and may do some good, not sure but worth a go. A wider audience can have a big impact. And I also like the OT subjects, As during the closed season we sometimes only have OT threads, for obvious reasons. Last summer Syd and I were publishing old postcards of Sunderland History, busses, trams etc. passed the dead days fine.

Thatcher destroyed British industry, and the Unions lost power along with it...She then thought it was fine for people to work, without Union backing, for up to 84 hours a week for under £1 pound an hour! Her idea of going back to Victorian values eh..
Bill I'm 43 so opinions all my own never been in any of the services but have the utmost respect for those who are/ where still think you guys where shafted by Thatcher who used the Falklands for her own ends.
The unions, imperfect though they are, are bothered about protecting the pay, jobs and conditions of their members. So instead of working people having jobs, decent conditions and decent pay, you're pleased that Thatcher attacked those rights and the super rich got even richer. Unless you're mega rich yourself, it's beyond me how anyone could admire Thatcher.
Froggy, you would have to have been part of it to understand, And I cant explain it to you, other than if you read Falkland veterans own statements `they would do it all over again`,,,,Maggie actually gave a **** about our armed forces, which succesive governments did not, so much so that they have slashed budgets and got policys wrong, thus endangering our troops,,,,BIG TIME. The gyst of my thread is about the raw deal pensioners are having/facing. A quality of life all retired folk should have. think the thread has gone sideways a bit.
Bill don'tpretend to understand what you went through, and back to your Thread I do agree with you that pensioners are getting a rough time of it but you can't blame immigrants blame the ****ing Tory government.
Not blaming immigrants, successive governments done bugger all for our pensioners, of which you will be someday, just showing the anomallys. people who paid in get nowt, people who didnt put in get the jackpot, would realy just like a level playing field for all. human rights should be for all, or none at all.

Ever bar/rsnst around where I live has eastern europeans workin in them, make the lazy English Sh*te do the jobs and so cutback on the dole money paid out, and it might up the pensioners pay
I would like to defend bill here. He is not being racist/right wing himself. He is merely highlighting an issue regarding the treatment of pensioners, of which he nearly is one, hence the cutting posts. It is a valid point that he has, and while it maybe could have been expressed better (it was a cut and paste job really), it does not detract from its validity.
It was a cut and paste job, but I intended [hopefully] to get people to realise, folks like me and older folks do matter, there are by elections coming up. I wont influence who does what. just wanted an awareness from the biggest audience I could get, And strange though it may seem, people do reach retirement age. "HOPE I DIE BEFORE I GET OLD" The Who, two are still left, the writer and the singer, and both pensioners if Im not mistaken. Rest assured we all will die, but its the quality of life in your latter years which should be special. Like I said stand up.
