Just wanted everyones thoughts on our man Dennis. Has only scored two goals this season but they are probably two of the most important of the season.
Despite being criticised by most of us, told he has no future, suffering from long term niggling injuries and not utilized properly as an impact winger by the current managment, he has stood up and been counted when it really matters. A true Gill in my opinion and if it was down to me although not a regular starter he would be kept as a decent squad player.

Lets hope he gives us one last chance for a chorus of Oli,Oli Oli, at Wembley in May. Afterall whatever we think of the player if we are singing that song it's happy days !!!

Dennis appears to be a nice guy - and it can't be easy to play knowing that you're on borrowed time. I agree that, these days he is probably only an impact sub - but can a club like GFC afford such a luxury ? rather than looking for 90 minute players. ( easier said than done .) Oli has been plagued with injuries, but appears to be fit at the moment - probably deserves to be in the squad for the final 5 (8) games - but needs to come on the pitch before the 85th minute.

I tend to judge a player after witnessing many performances and then there will be one individual performance following the initial earlier judgements that will turn my opinion one way or the other.

My eventual opinion that I hold now on Dennis Oli, I think happened around the same time as Richards. However, as time goes on and Hessy persists in his trust or was it more fate through other injuries, Oli has been party to saving our season.

In the same way that my opinion was swayed against Oli, he has earned the right to sway it back. Judgement reserved for another five games.

The harsh reality is changes have to happen and we cannot afford to keep everyone through fear of upsetting them, it might sound a bit harsh but he is paid to save our necks along with every other player on the books.

Nice guy maybe but that's life.

i tend to look on it as, if we had someone half decent in oli's place, then we would have more points and goals on the board...rather than these two games you speak of !

so, no i don't rate him a saviour...after all thats what he's paid for, so two goals in a season is poor...no matter what match they be in !

now if he were to get the winner vs oxford or any of our other four games, then we can quote him in the so called bracket

we should never start with Oli but he can be a handful when he comes on as sub.

Exactly my point. Most effective 15-20 mins from time on the right in a 442 formation. Injects pace back into the attack especially if we are chasing a game. Top professional with a good attitude. Hess should reconsider his stance as we could replace him with a lot worse.

If he scored 10 - 15 a season ok,but he doesnt.Suddenly after getting 2 goals everyone wants to sign him up again. I think Hess has given him more of a chance to prove himself .Denis has not done a lot this last 2 years. Why is Miller not getting a chance ?.

kangaroo - I believe there is a clear reason why Miller is not getting a chance. Firstly, I will add that I am a supporter of the lad. Hessy's tactics whatever they might be, does not set Miller up for any protection. He is quick and can cause defences problems, however, he is so easily muscled of the ball in league two.

Now I have been a critic of Oli loud and clear all season but I do acknowledge that maybe Oli offers Miller the better chance of getting on the turf. In the same way I believe Bayo supplied Cody. Hence maybe why Hessy includes both on the bench.

People may not remember when Bayo picked up a knock in a game last season at Priestfield, Cody was suddenly like a lost lamb.

Unfortunately this is about the complete package and even I accept our lesser personal choices sometimes compliment our favourites. Although at the moment we have to decide do we want the strength and power of Vine, the stamina of Kedwell, the height and ability to pull players in of Oli or the pace of Miller...not forgetting Kuffour!

Miller like Rooney is better used when defences are tiring, unless we can find a tactical change.

lets keep this clear, till the end of this season, leave oli as an impact player for last 20-15mins...should we not have our best 16 available to call up on before hand. then come the end of the season...release him...without a doubt !

the guy has nothing to offer 98% of the time, and looks to only be impressing for a new deal...even though the guy says otherwise.
all just before next season when he fades back into the background again and we're stuck with him !

HESS IF YOU ARE HERE NEXT SEASON...DO NOT OFFER MOST OF THE OUT OF CONTRACT PLAYERS DEALS, INCLUDED DENNIS OLI !!!

keep jackman, essam, davies, tomlin, evans & spiller....others get rid !
