Depends who BR is managing at the start of July. There is no way he would trade his current job to be #2 at Swansea. A London club with Champions League experience on the other hand...
BR said he wouldn't take the Spurs job and that he was committed to Swansea, which means that he'll be in the Spurs job once Harry starts with England, and MM will be with him..oh how we'll laugh at their loyalty! lol
well sorry to burst your bubble but thats professional football for you.... he had a chance to go to a team higher in the table and took it, improved his wages and chances of getting to the PL...which is what its all about at the end of the day.. if watford were struggling under his management then i doubt there would be any loyalty from you fans to keep him if he looked out of his depth...it works both ways..
none of us mind that he went to a club and earned more. none of us minded that he decided to take what he perceived to be a better job. What we all minded was what he did afterwards, not just taking the usual backroom staff, which we expected, but tapping up players, knowingly waiting for Cowie's contract to run out (which we can't prove but it's blatently obvious), more than likely telling players who were perspective signings to go to Wales with him rather than come to the Vic, turning his back on Watford, so much so that Graham Taylor basically told him to bog off, publically. He shamed himself with his behaviour, and you're welcome to the lowlife prat. Sadly, he hasn't failed as badly as we hoped he would, but he hasn't exactly succeeded either..doing his usual end of season nose-dive...here's hoping he'll be sacked soon.
nothing wrong with bringing your own backroom staff with you, many managers do this. he took cowie, who would have gone anyway, your living in cloud cuckoo land if you believe it was 'insider information' that led to cowie going to us, his agent would have been on the phone to every manager in the league if he was a good one. again, many managers sign players they have worked with before, warnock being a prime example... and if he had a list of potential signings in mind, why rip it up and lose those players? he would have done his homework and is entitled to sign who he wants once the club (who received compensation for his departure) allow him to leave... as for the 'hasn't exactly succeeded either' bit, if you would have said to me at the start of the season that we'd take liverpool to penalties at wembley and be 6th place at this stage, given that he undertook a complete rebuilding job, i'd say he would have been relatively successful.....
like i said, we'd expect him to take backroom staff. Yes, call it bitter if you like (not that you did, but i am! lol)...he left without any sort of gratitude, his words to the press at the time were shameful, he didn't bother to thank Watford FC for all the chances he'd been given, nor did he once thank the supporters. The rest i stand by, whether it's right or not. He behaved appallingly, and i don't think he's been that successful, given that the club he went to is struggling to stay in the playoffs, where they practically lived before he got there. You lost a few players, he made sure we had practically nothing left. We had to bring in 11 players. That's a team ya know. And we had no money to spend. I think we can say with pride that Sean Dyche has done a far better job, and been far more successful this season.
The thing with Cowie is, at this point in time there is the expectation that as a quality player he would run his contract down and his agent would have a queue of clubs waiting too sign him - but the reality is, he had made no impression in the Championship at all at that point in time and the only interested in him was MM. It was a set up and the well deserve each other.....if Cardiff do not get promoted his standing will be not better.
None of us are bitter, we just simply dont like the guy. When he joined Watford in 2005 he had been released by West Ham before he could even play in the prem. He then became a regular first team player for us and even helped us get promoted. He then got his first taste of top flight football having been released by Norwich and WH before being able to play. Then he took his first coaching steps when we appointed him as first team coach and was subsequently made caretaker manager in 2008 until Brendan Rogers took over. When Rogers jumped ship in 2009 we gave MM the managers job full time. After all that he left to join you, which we all understand and are fine with now. Its no different from a regular promotion. But he never once said thank you to anyone at Watford. He just ran away and took all our staff and transfer targets, knowing we could not compete. Imagine this, you have a son who has just turned 18 and you have paid for his upkeep, he did not pay rent, you bought him his first car, you gave him everything he wanted. Then on his 18th birthday he just leaves and does not say thank you, but takes all the things you have bought him. You would feel a bit let down wouldn't you??
Complete ballacks. Cowie was our most consistent player last season and he was also our highest assisting player. He set up most of our strikers goals. And with us being one of the highest scoring teams last season, for Cowie to be our highest assister really shows how creative he is. By the way, Im the one and only Watford fan in the UK who actually still likes Malky Mackay if any Cardiff fans are reading this?
I don't really blame Malky or Cowie, but at the same time I still don't like what they did.....being a Watford fan.
I have no hard feelings towards Cowie. His contract expired and he left the club as he is entitled to do. I blame the suits for not being smart enough to activate the clause to add a year to his contract (as they have with Deeney) and allowing him to do this. I like the guy and think he is an ok player. Anyone who boos him needs to grow up and take a look in the mirror. And i will (and have) happily say that to anyone's face who wants to question it.
Probably. But a lot of the rest of us respect the good things he did do for the club (mainly but not exclusively as a player), without particularly liking him.
Like Rodgers before him it was not what MM did but the way that he did it. We gave him his first chance in management and he never acknowledged that or how good the fans had been towards him. He went to what he considered a bigger club with more immediate prospects as many people do in life - fair enough. However after Bassini took over he was offered a new contract which he could have refused if he thought he was ready to move on to bigger and better. But he accepted the contract and as a result Watford rightly thought they had secured the club structure for at least another season whilst they continued their rebuilding and debt solving. Then a month or two later a slightly better offer comes along and he takes it. In my working life I employed many many people and if someone accepted a new contract I trusted them to keep to it for more than a few weeks - especially if they knew they were a "key man" in the business. MM did not care - he took the contract and used it to get an even better one - again some may say fair enough but for me it does not make him a man of his word or a man I can admire. I do not wish him well - he has shown he will walk over anyone he chooses to better himself and himself alone. He has clearly shown he could not care less what any Watford fan thinks of him.
Im not bothered that he didn't say thanks TBH. I liked the guy as a Watford player, liked him as a Watford assistant and liked him as a Watford manager, so am I going to suddenly turn that around and dislike him because he didn't say thanks and took back room staff with him??? No, Im not that fickle and I can move on from such things, Im a Watford fan, Im used to certain things happening every summer. Life goes on and holding grudges or being bitter is never good.
It's not about grudges - you judge people every day of your life and just because MM did OK when we paid him well to do it does not mean you have to like him when he effectively turns you over - when he left us he did so no doubt knowing we would struggle to survive - and he even tried to get Dyche - so do I like him just because he was OK in the past - no - do I dislike him because he nearly got us relegated - yes
Nearly got us relegated??? Take a look at the league table, we are in 13th!!!! Nearly relegated yeah! In 50 years time I bet most Watford fans will still be treating MM like a pantomime villain.
