Sunderland are ready to bid for Manchester City winger Adam Johnson.

The Daily Star Sunday says Johnson, born on Wearside, could be sacrificed in a summer shake-up at the Etihad Stadium.

Sources say Johnson, despite signing a new deal last November that runs to 2016, half expects to be shipped out.

And there’s every chance he could join Martin O’Neill at Sunderland.

this is about the 6th time from different sources i have see this god i hope he is our first new signing.

SUNDERLAND are waiting to make their move for Manchester City winger Adam Johnson.

The England star, born on Wearside, could be sacrificed in a summer shake-up at the Etihad Stadium.

Johnson, 24 joined City from *Middlesbrough for £7million two years ago but has failed to convince boss Roberto Mancini that he has a long-term future with the title-*chasers.

Mancini has been critical of Johnson, accusing him of not working hard enough in matches.

Sources say Johnson, despite signing a new deal last November that runs to 2016, half expects to be shipped out.

And there’s every chance he could join Martin O’Neill at Sunderland.

    and yet another one.

Wages could be a key factor though, he is a very good winger. Does he play on the right ?.

Plays both wings, mostly on the right though, get rid of elmo and that will free up some wages

Can't see it, great player but i wouldnt be gutted if he doesn't come. I he'll cost around 10m min and if we are even able to pay that much for one player in the summer it has to be a striker.

Im quite happy with the squad and if we could possibly add a 15-20 goal striker to it we can push QPR top 6 imo.

SAFC pay structure is the reason that hell will freeze over before this kind of transfer happens...

If Johnson is going to be shipped out then surely far bigger clubs will be fighting over him?

Then again, I don't know. Johnson is a tricky one. He's a brilliant winger and in that awkward position where he might not be good enough to be first choice at one of the top 4 clubs, but at the same time is too good to be sat on the bench often, so perhaps he's destined to be a star at one of the top 10 sides.

You want to be careful talking almost commonsence , people will expect it on a more frequent basis, this lad is good enough to be a regular in any top 4-6 team in the prem it is only because of Mancini trying to pacify his many prima donas that he dosn't get regular starts

    Johnson linked to City
    Sunderland, 10:53, April 9, 2012

Sunderland are ready to make an offer to take Manchester City wide man Adam Johnson at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old has spent most of the season in and out of the side and City boss Roberto Mancini is said to be getting frustrated with his inconsistent performances.
Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is now monitoring the situation with a view to making a bid when the summer transfer window opens, according to weekend reports.
Mancini hinted he was running out of patience with Johnson, he said: "Adam has a good talent, but also it's important he puts this on the pitch, this talent.
    "Sometime he doesn't do this."

In Betfair you can either make a back bet (bet on who's going to win) or place a lay bet (bet against something happening). Betfair matches people on either side of the bet with the odds they agree.

another fresh report today, anyone heard anything else

I would love to see him here. Still feel we need a striker first though. O'Neill might be able to wave his magic wand and sell the club to him. How much money does he need at the end of the day? He could come here, play every game, be adored by the fans, be part of something special and still have a fair wedge in the bank.

I think he will be aware of our interest,if he wants to play for England he needs to have a lot more first team football, and if Mancini cant get the best out of him and ships him out im sure Mon can work his magic on him, maybe he just doesn't play well to Mancini tack ticks.

Very good player who needs to be playing every week. Mancini clearly doesn't have faith in him, and I think some of the reason he doesn't produce is because he can't get enough pitch time to progress. Needs a move but I don't think Sunderland is a likely destination for a multitude of reasons. Mainly wages and he'd have better options. I think he would benefit massively from a spell abroad.

Parker, couldnt agree more mate. he would cost 10 million minimum and would insist on his current wage which i belive is approx 75 grand a week (he aint gonna get that at Sunderland) more significantly.i dont think an additional winger is high on the agenda at Sunderland, we have two very good wingers in Larrson and Mclean and on current form theres no way id drop Larrson in favour of Johnson wide on the right..as you quite rightly point out the money could be best spent on a quality striker
