Today we had a very interesting race, good commentary, good to see the DRS does not make overtaking artificial but instead provides a very small aid for overtaking. Some drivers clearly exceeded expectation and were really impressive. Feeli a bit sorry for Michael, but thats racing.

    3 Drivers today looked brilliant:

PETROV - You wouldnt expect him to pick up his first podium and drive a solid race and completely school Heidfeld. Great start and handled pressure well. One thing we havent seen much from him is overtaking, but today he was fantastic in every other part. He's proved his doubters wrong.

PEREZ - Great work to beat the highly rated Kobayashi. Big shame about the DSQ, but one pit stop with Pirellis was unbelieveable. He looked comfortable in an F1 car and looks like a future prospect.

VETTEL - Destroyed Webber held it tohether and easoly won. The one time he needed to overtake he did, yes his car was fast and easy to drive but as Webber showed, driver skill is still vital.

    Other names to mention:

Hamilton - Solid drive with damaged car, catching Vettel at times and good job not letting Vettel run away at the front

Alonso - Poor start but recovered well, passing someone into turn 12 and then quickly passing Rosberg (who is a good defensive driver). Team order or not, he was all over Massa anyway. Good drive in a car that looked difficult to handle.

    Di Resta - Good debut

Driver of the day for me was Perez, what an excellent drive on his debut!

Vettel for me over this weekend has shown that he will be fighting it out for the title, so thats why he is my driver of the day.

You cannot give Alonso that when there were team orders again. And Button was more over Massa's ass, where is his mention?

Hamilton for bringing home a damaged car and keeping up speed with a very quick Vettel. And let's not forget how brilliantly he managed his tyres, even when he had a damaged car!

Petrov for me though, fantastic start and good solid drive.

I wouldn't have Vettel up there with Petrov and Perez, apart from a crucial pass on Button it was a procession for him.

I agree Perez was the outstanding performer though. Can't praise him highly enough for that performance.

Actually I will stick Vettel up there as well, just because he managed to swear on the BBC without getting told off. ;)

Was the race any good? I like my F1 but two hours of Vettel strolling around is a bit much for me. Hoping for more overtaking this year. Did the wing aid help at all?

I'd say it was an average race, Nothing spectacular but enough to keep maintained interest.
Vettel was pretty much on his own but there was a lot of movement going on from 3rd/4th to 12th.

The rear wing appeared to have less of an effect than a lot of people where predicting, which I guess is good for a lot of fans (not all mind).

Couple of overtakes. Button used it nicely to overtake Kobayashi, Vettel said it helped him to hang on to Button down the straight so he could overtake him at turn four.

The race was good, not a classic by any stretch but it was a lot better than Bahrain last year.

Without a doubt Perez or Petrov. Perez did brillinatly with those tyres, whether the rear wing helped in that area we don't know, but a fantastic drive for his debut GP. Petrov was stunning, his driving is much more mature and I think it will not be his only podium of the year. Kubica better watch out when he comes back!

In regards to the DRS, it wasn't that good, only 2 or 3 overtakes. It's probably that the straight at Albert Park isn't long enough, but there is not enough room anyway. I think they should be able to use it anywhere, but have to be within 1 second, and can only use it at the 3rd lap

I didn't think Alonso actually did much today. I would put Button higher than him for his fight back from his penalty. di Resta had a good first race as well

I think Alonso did better than Button, maybe if Button gave the position back but Alonso's overtakes where great and imo was the exciting driver today.

It was very exciting watching him drop back to 9th and then having his team mate move over for him and gain a position at the stops because Webber went off.

    What a performance!

    He had overtaken someone?

For once I enjoyed watching Petrov drive, and Perez was on fire. Hamilton did well to bring the car home, and stick with Vettel before the issue, better than Alonso in my opinion. But your an Alonso fan, and I'm a Hamilton fan, were gunna show some favourtism and pretty stupid claims i.e Alonso was exciting

He overtook Rosberg and Kobayashi pretty easily. Round the outside of a fast chicane on Kobayashi (who had an illegal car :p. Joking) He did well leap frogging Webber in a far inferier car. The only 'mistake' was on L1 at the start, but that was more due to being on the outside than his fault tbh

    Wow, how amazing.

Webber went off and lost time. Alonso just drove around.

I think you'll find that's mistake, not 'mistake'. And what a funny excuse! You'd think the most complete driver on the grid wouldn't have got caught out like that.

Yep definitely driver of the day.

How many drivers didn't lose position due to 'mistakes'?

McWilliams, it seems you are very paranoid. You seem to bash anything any Alonso fan say, you wont bash El_Bando as he's a mod. You need to grow up and see how **** your team did. Name 1 other driver who overtook both of them. Look at what the Williams did to Rosberg...Oh I cant remember, what was it? Oh right he crashed him. The Sauber and Mercedes have very high top speed and Rosberg is a very good defensive driver so its better than you think. Who did Hamilton overtake? No-one that was a good move. What about Barrichello and Maldonado? Schumacher who had a puncture. You need to stop moaning at everything I say, everyone has opinions right? Oh wait Alonso fans arent allowed just because Alonso is better than Hamilton. Soon enough Vettel and Kubica fans wont be allowed an opinion Button fans arent allowed anyway. Is there anyone who can have opinions except Hamilton fans? STFU and leave the forum you twat. Where did I say he was driver of the day?

You are a pathetic excuse of an 'F1 fan' especially as you say youve been watching since '93 which you obviously havent because you act lie a 4 year old

I recommended El_Bando to be a mod. And I like Hull, we get on a treat. So huge fail Fred!

You've named a driver that had a shocking start, had his team mate move over and overtook cars that are quite a lot slower than him as driver of the day. He's had fantastic drives. Today's was not. Your reasons for why he did well quite frankly suck.

And WTF has Barrichello or Maldonado got to do with anything??

    And I'm paranoid??

    Ha!

Wheres the proof he had him move over? How are Mercedes slow when they have top speed in the speed trap? Look at your name you willl then know where Spaghetti and Barrichello get it there
