Come on lads, we will soon have a reputation as a bunch of whingers. MOTD and the whole BBC us a joke but don't put posts up every time they say somthing we don't like. To be fair to Lawrenson was answering the question. Nobody believes Holt WILL be picked and I think his gesture was one of "he should be picked on form but won't be because that's the way it is". Grant Holt has scored well in a league that is no longer the"best in the world". La Liga is. He has scored goals for Norwich and he is one of the better players in our team. And we play to him. If he gets in the England set up, he will be one among 22. They won't see him as the main man. Rooney is world class and is the main man. They will look to pick someone to compliment him. I would love to see him play for England but its not the Holy Grail.
Is that what passes as humour in your neck of the woods Mr Wark's facial hair? (Or should I say Master B*m fluff?)
Agreed, every year it's Barcelona winning the title and occasionally Real Madrid. I prefer Seria A over La Liga.
Two semi finalists in the Champions League and three in the Europa Cup. English clubs knocked out of Europe by them. The Premier League top three for the last 10 years has basically been Manure, Chelski and Arseole. La Liga has been Barca, Real and Valencia. By comparing La Liga to the SPL, I can't see your head but I can see your feathered arse in the air.
we've smoked out the MOTD boys for what they actually feel. So they talked condecendingly about Holt Ipswich fans say holt isn't good enough for 12 months - Scores three Goals against them at Carrow Road Lawrenson and co say Holt isn't good enough - Liverpool at carrow road coming up... I WONDER WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN!!!??? Gary Linekar - "You join us on Match of the day tonight, unfortunately Alan and Mark can't be here tonight, there both behind their sofas at home hiding from what Grant Holt did to their beloved club today"
I'm surprised you think this fella, didn't think you were particularly a fan of the Spanish style of play? I personally disagree with your comment, whilst the technical standard at the top of La Liga is probably as good as it gets I would personally prefer to watch the Premiership any day of the week . In terms of excitement this season has to be right up there with one of the very best premiership seasons I can remember, some absolutely epic games so far and for us to have played such a big part in it and have the second highest home grown goal scorer is worth more than the token smidgen of praise we tend to get week in, week out. I can't believe they couldn't spend two minutes showing some of Holt's goals this season and then discussing why they think he isn't good enough to play for England - and they are more than entitled to believe that, but please share with us the rationale behind this thinking!! In other words, earn your ludicrous salaries you ****ers!!!
Just read on twitter that they didn't have enough time to debate Holt. Yet last week they analysed a game before ours further, avoiding any comment on Norwich whatsoever.
Peter Crouch will get in ahead of Holt any day of the week Proven goal scorer at international level versus a novice who has had just 1 good goal scoring season in the premier league. Hmmm....That's a tough one!
Couldn't agree with you more mate. However I don't believe the quality is there. Spain rules, World Champions, Euro champs, Under 21 champs. Barcelona is 75% Spanish. The Germans are in a far better financial state, average bigger gates in the Bundeslega and have a better national team. And you know what, I can't stand watching it. I love the cut and thrust of our game. The excitement generated by our 2nd goal yesterday was the ultimate for me. It had everything embodied in it. But I do recognise its not the best. It won't win competitions and thats how you ultimately judge things. The days of sticking a Union Flag in the ground and telling the world the boys are in town is over. I love Holt to bits. He personifies the excitement football gives me. Not the cleverest, not the fastest, not the most skillful. And when he drops people from behind after losing it, I scream at him. But the things he does is what I want from football. The way he got into a great position on the right hand side of the box and Bennet chose to ignore him, he could have had even more goals this season and they debate would be even hotter. MOTD is like its parent, the BBC, outdated and lack lustre because its guaranteed funded despite its content. Football is the biggest sport in the world and the BBC don't recognise that anymore. So they think they have to make an attempt at showing it but it falls below the required standard. Many people don't like SKY, but fans wouldn't be watching football in the comfort and regularity they are now accustomed to without it. So what is the alternative?
Holt deserves to be in the squad, but I think we all know it won't happen. If we weren't in a Euro/ World cup year and were just playing pointless friendlies, then he'd be given a chance. However, the FA are going to appoint a manager who they think will be able to win the Championships for us. After-all, it is our divine right! Are the manager, who's reputation is on the line, and the selection team really going to take a risk and pick someone who's never played international football, when they could just pick the same group as always and then blame the manager when it fails. I would love Holt to play for England, and I'm sure he would add something to the team, but I'm afraid he's not going to get a chance this close to the Euro's.
I love Holt to bits and the argument for him to be included is fairly sound if a little biased, I'm sure you thought Whymark should have played more than once for England. But I have to agree about Crouch. His international scoring record is outstanding but he doesn't get picked. Bit like his ex team mate Defoe.
Fact of the matter is unless we score goals we won't make it past the first round. At the moment Holt is that man. He's a classic England number 9, he's a talisman, a leader, intelligent, strong, surprisingly quick and if your a 11 stone french defender, ****ing terrifying. He's not this one dimensional "Heskey" these MOTD twats think he is. He deserves the call, I think he'll get a call, and I think he'll grab it with both hands. Frankly, with the miracles we've seen him pull off in the last two years getting an england callup is a relatively small task.
Unbiased, unprompted comment from a Villa fan this morning: 'Holt has done alright for Norwich but he's not close to being good enough for England.'
At the time I was furious, but the more I think about it, lawro and hansen - as far as they are concerned, a 30+ player has turned up in the prem and scored 15 odd goals...I doubt they know anything about the guy outside of 3-4 games they've seen this season...I doubt they know his past efforts because these guys know very little about football outside the premier league...I'd be interested to see what more worldly pundits thought - and while I hate claridge, I imagine he'd be more inclined to say give him a chance... The thing that grates, is that it showed an utter lack of respect for the man and our teams achievements...and that isn't right. *Fair enough if you don't agree with holt for England, but expound on your reasoning - dont sit there with a smug look on your face like to even answer the question is beneath you - that's not on.* Ha, I started this by saying at the time I was furious, I thought I'd calmed...I'm once again furious... Holt has made a career out of proving morons wrong...this can only spur him on.*
