Over the past week we have had posts on many things about the past, our neighbours and each others players but what we are struggling to come to terms with, IMO, is the now and what's happening to our region and in particular our club. I would say amazing is a good word to cover it.

A quick word on Newcastle just to say that last season and next season, right now are irrelevant, the now is something for them to simply enjoy and well done to them.

For us, well the very short journey we have taken in time since the arrival of one Mr O'Neill becomes a very, very long journey in everything to do with our club, I am in a place I can honestly say I have never been before. Even under the Stokoe and Reid days the journey was great but many games were played with that squint of the eye, cross of the fingers and hope we would hang on, its those feelings that are going.

I don't expect us to win every game, I know we wont and I know we will have those Everton cup game days when it just does not work out.

I think my feelings during and after that game typifies the change for me, not angry or annoyed but disappointed and shocked, I don't expect those days but for most of my days supporting I would not be shocked, same old Sunderland would be a normal response.

I have a genuine interest in Newcastle because they are our neighbours, I have lots of friends who support them, I used to work for them and they reflect my region. I'm not jealous or envious of them and because of what is happening at my club I am so happy about us that its us that is filling my head.

I think it was Cumbrian who posted yesterday about being relaxed and relaxed is a very good description. Yesterday I had such a good day, a happy day with my son and his mates, we laughed all day. I met up with Les, redfender, like I always do and I always enjoy our chat but yesterday was again laughter. I bumped into Scatty Moo and again we naturally enjoyed a laugh.

Throughout the game I and those around me did not see a boring game, a game portrayed in some newspapers as a backs against the wall, a dirty game but a game of a top team with top players being contained and TBH made to look very ordinary by a Sunderland team who controlled them. If Sess, Bendy and Maclean had been on top form we would have won, IMO.

All of this progress, hope and positive relaxation and lets not forget, MON has bought nobody and is still very new in the job.

So my friends, lets leave Bruce in the past, we don't need to talk about him or abuse him, we are better than that, I hope.

Lets enjoy the positive debate with the many good mags and ignore the numpties, they are becoming less relevant and starting to look more out of touch.

Lets enjoy our remaining games, hope for 7th but be happy if its 9th but above all lets just enjoy being a supporter of a great club with a great manager and great fans.

    Happy Easter.

Great post Syd-its a strange feeling being disappointed about a home draw against a top team.My only wish is for a more creative midfielder and a good striker.

Good post mate, the papers as usual got it wrong, Spuds were Swansea and just passed to one another in their own half.
I took 3 young'uns to the match yesterday and a couple of goals from the R&Ws would have helped..but for me we did a good job without playing that well. Spuds kept 6 at the back cos' they were scared of us hitting them on the break.

Not sure what to say about the mags, was at a family do last night and my Uncle ( a long time mag) was beaming all the time, mind he did buy me a couple of beers, so not too much of a bad lad.

Well said Syd, a great post I understand where your coming from, I thought my post yesterday about being relaxed would have brought more comments, but hey it must be us olduns that only really understand how different things feel this time around, and long may that continue. A Happy Easter too you and all our posters.

I agree this time it somehow feels different. Previously, when we have not turned up for a game that would have been the start of a bad run. Now we seem to put it right the next game. Since MON arrived the good games outweigh the bad rather than the other way around.

I think we MON has just brought a bigger and better magic carpet and I can't wait to see where it takes us..............

For years I have told people that I am a natural cynic because I am a Sunderland supporter. I have supported my team for more years than I care to remember and almost without exception every year we have been in the top division I have spent the season studying the bottom of the league and working out how many points we need to be safe. In recent weeks I have been able to stop this but in terms of this season I will have spent more time looking down than up.

For once however I now believe that next season we can genuinely think about looking up and potentially even winning something.

I am still a cynic and do fear the worst because I have been like this for so many years - hope and expectation is not something I am yet comfortable with but as I said to my missus when I was trying to woo her "give me something to change for and I will show you that I can"!!!!!

Yep, sounds like me as far as football is concerned!!!!!!!! Don't get too hopeful about the future as it will just hurt more when it inevitably turns to rats**t!

Come on MON, I need help and you're the man to give it to me!

Great post Syd. If the journalists and commentators within the media were able to become man enough to provide a fair reflection of a game without making snidey and unnecessary remarks that bias one team over another, it would be a step in the right direction. Today's media continuously attempt to stir up ill feeling and this is a reflection of their personalities or lack thereof, along with poor standards of self conduct in general. They are working in influencial positions and pass comment on a sport that generates strong emotions. Some of the comments about Sunderland which were biased in favour of Tottenham were quite turgid to say the least. If anybody would care to take a look at the match stats we created more shots on target and had nearly 3 times as many corners. We also witnessed one of the longest back passes to a keeper in the history of the game, by a Tottenham player.

    Sunderland Tottenham Hotspur
    0 Goals 0
    0 1st Half Goals 0
    3 Shots on Target 1
    4 Shots off Target 8
    5 Blocked Shots 7
    11 Corners 4

As you also mention Steve Bruce... It would be a lot easier for the fans of Sunderland to move on and leave the not so happy memories of that era behind if Steve didn't end up going to print on the front page of the evening chronicle and so on. Let's hope we are allowed to move on without any more bait being placed into the media every other weekend. It doesn't bother myself either way but it clearly does bother others and for their sake I hope things settle down.

    Excellent post Syd.

We just have to hope that the owner gives Mon some support in the summer to maintain our progress..
