by all the new buttons and gadgets? First he goes backwards on the first lap Gets overtaken by Petrov Has to be reminded by the pit to push his Kers button Even though Massa allows him to pass he still ends up stuck behind Petrov Is Alonso too old and no longer mentally agile enough to compete with Lewis,Vettel Petrov Koba and Perez? It's sad to see a complete driver forgetting to push buttons Thoughts?
Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. Overwhelmed that is. He's the same age as Massa though, who made great use of KERS to fend off Button by saving it up until the pit straight so he could cancel out Button's DRS, prompting Button to query "How is he pulling away on the straight?" These controls will become intuitive to all drivers though. If Alonso is struggling he'll pick it up soon enough.
He is just putting his point across I dont think it is a wind up or a useless article. I think the reason you feel that this is a wind up is because YOU ARE a Fernando Alonso fan and that naturally happens when you defend your driver as much as you can.
You do realise he specified against Alonso Lewis,Vettel Petrov Koba and Perez? in which case he is indeed the oldest of them all.
It's the way of progress A new generation tend to have skills that are more useful for their era The so called playstation generation had computing and hand eye coordination skills that their parents did not have Alonsos generation were maybe more comfortable with less buttons, less systems, less multiple tasking Compare a steering wheel ten years ago to today's Lewis and vettel for sure have grown up on racing games to go along with karting during the day, in Alonsos youth maybe the graphics and technology was not as good Could be that alonso is more used to things happening for him just because he is alonso, it's easy to get stuck in a car behind someone waiting to be waved through whereas the new boys will be trying all their gadgets etc I don't think alonso is a danger to others on track yet though but maybe the fia should start thinking about an upper age limit if technology begins to get much more complicated. Sad to see a complete driver like alonso kept off the podium by a pay driver in his second year Maybe petrov is a playstation kid as well
Only older ones who are unable to adapt due to a culture and upbringing of entitlement and favours Those who are happy to 'win' away from the track Those who would be happiest if all competitors were removed before the race and they won by technical default
And the whining about Petrov begins............ Seriously, he had a fantastic race, and you can't take that away from him. This 'playstation era' thing you talk about is right in some sense, but the older drivers are still meant to be the best in the world. If they cannot adapt to rule changes year in year out, then maybe they shouldn't be in F1. thats what F1 is all about.
How can anyone say he couldnt pass Petrov? with 8 laps left he was 7-8 seconds behind, then was never less than 1. The closest he was was in the last corner and there was no way anybody would have passed him. Not even Vettel in the Red Bull could have done it
Vettel wouldn't have been in the position that he had to. Unlike Petrov who passed Alonso. Still better luck next time. Maybe Alonso can spend the break between now and Malaysia locating the KERS button.
