Rugby fans ALWAYS go on about how tough it is and the fact it is played by 'real men who dont fake injury'. They never ever go on about the beauty of the sport itself. In that case, if you want to watch hard men not feigning injury why not just watch UFC? If that's what you enjoy then just cut out the middle man.
18,000 fans for a top of the table local derby on a Good Friday when City got 17,000 against a bottom of the table team with no fans and playing in the second tier demonstrates that rugby in Hull is a minority sport. They couldn't give the tickets away for the Good Friday game You're either read and white or black and white- or much more likely you're not fussed about a minority sport.
I did say it was my two penneth worth BCC now you have had yours. I do like to be entertained though so I go to the dark side for that lol
i am no rugby league fan, but the one thing you cannot argue about is the relative 'honesty' between the two sports. Football is without doubt full of cheats and rugby league isnt, although certain issues such as drugs and this so-called salary cap must be questionable. For instance, some of the Warrington players wives must be the richest office cleaners in the world! My only other comment about rugby is how predictable it is becoming. All the teams seem to play the same tactical game now, although some are better at it than others. I swear that if the crowd was randomly watching any two teams in super league for (say) five minutes in identical colours, they would not know the difference between top and bottom. Even the players are beginning to look identical in their respective positions between teams. Athletes, yes, but also tactical masters of robotics!!!
Rugby league's a very repetitive game, watch one you've pretty much seen them all. The players don't feign injury, but they're far from honest, with head tackles, pulling a player on, timing of laying on the ball etc, manipulation of the ref's one of the key tactics.
Betting on your own team to lose? The best bit about that is he didnt even hide it. Arf - how fookin thick do you have to be to do that?
Because ballet is not a team sport where the objective is to score more goals than the opposition. That's what I like about football, you see. I dont recall saying I like pre-choreagraphed rythmic movement in time to enchanting music.
Exactly, they're completely different things. So where did anyone mention fighting above, as per your point? There's 'not faking an injury' and 'punching someone back when you get hit' and then there's a straight fight ie: UFC... How you can relate Rugby League to UFC simply because the team players aren't cringeworthingly embarrassing to watch when they pussy out and roll around on the floor, often after no contact whatsoever escapes me. They're completely different things. Rugby League to UFC is what Ballet is to Football... nothing at all. So there's no middle man to cut out and nothing to say Rugby fans should be watching UFC.
Because people always say 'I like rugby because it is played by hard men who dont feign injury'. They NEVER talk about the sport itself. I thought my point was pretty clear. If your opinion on football is 'team players cringeworthingly embarrassing to watch when they pussy out and roll around on the floor, often after no contact whatsoever' then why are you on a football forum?
Because that's obviously not my ONLY opinion on football... ******. Football's got the flair and more often than rugby you'll get a tight game which makes for excitement. The money involved is pretty 'glamorous' as well despite moral issues with how out of control it's gotten. It makes for entertainment when there's no games to watch. You watch and see how many rumour threads pop up come transfer period. Rugby on the other hand, isn't as embarrassing to watch as football can be, though less often you'll be able to watch a tighter game. If you know what to look out for then you'll see that rugby is usually a more tactical game than football, though football usually requires better skill. I just see it as horses for courses. I'm a fan of both which, to answer your question, is why I'm on a football forum. This is also why I'll stick up for rugby when people use half-baked opinions to try and drag the sport down a notch. If you only ever hear people say that rugby's better because of the 'hard men' thing then that's because it's what annoys them most about football. For the record, these are some other areas of Rugby League where I find enjoyment (as well as 'hard men' or whatever we're calling them now) - strength and speed of players - respect for the referees - video reffing means less controversy and arguing points for fans - high kicks on the try line - drop goal attempts to win the game - low kicks towards the posts - big hits, providing they're legal I don't prefer football or rugby, I need to have both. But there are noticeable differences between the two... The majority of which are based on personality. At the end of the day you get more controversy and scandal in football, which makes headlines. I don't like that side of it.
You like rugby, I dont - end of. However I will pick you up on one point: video reffing means less controversy and arguing points for fans Erm, surely you mean video refs only at televised games. I've always awaited an answer on how that can even be considered 'fair'. It is just astonishing that the authorities believe video refs enhance the game and are an integral part of the decision makiing process, but we'll only do it when Sky are in town. Surely if anything that means MORE controversy and arguing points when a wrong decision is made at a non-televised game.
Do they have different refs for the televised games? Just based on the highlights program that was on the ref in the FC KR game only knew how to make a square with his hands and then tell the players what he was being told had happened, it was like watching the recording of our game against Villa again.
More at City today than the Derby El Clasico Eddie Waringo on Friday How on Earth is that possible?????????
