Spurf, its cool, we can kiss and make up but only if you promise to say you lied about scotland being another country :)

Ps, I don't take offence to anything anyone says on here and the above posts were all in humour, anyhow, this is all getting too serious so i may need to tuck into a bottle of buckfast and haggis in batter in little scotland as i couldnt go near the real place :)

Celtic's home stadium is Celtic Park, the biggest football stadium in Scotland, with a capacity of 60,832.

That's an awful lot of fans Boss. You are wise not to go. <ok>

  7. Ahem!

Anyway, as I said at the very start of this thread, I simply cannot get excited about Celtic winning the SPL. For Neil Lennon to say that it's the proudest moment of his life, winning a one-horse race, really is a sad indictment on Scottish football.

Both clubs with a long history religious intolerance that still can't behave themselves on the pitch or in the stands. I certainly don't get excited when Celtic or Rangers win something in Scotland.

As for being a top 6 side, didn't Birmingham go further than them in the Europa League? I'd argue Joe Ledley and McGregor are the only two players in Scotland that could cut it in the PL so it'd take a lot more than £20mill extra a year to sort that out.

OK, there is no doubt that Scottish football has gone down the pan in recent years but then it could also be argued that so has English football. The affect in England has been masked by the financial success of the PL and this has attracted top players from all over the world. We get a better idea of the level of English players when watching the performances of the England national team which in recent years has been pretty average to say the least.

In the unlikely event of Celtic being admitted to the PL there is no doubt in my mind that this Huge club would soon start competing at the highest level. For a start they would be able to attract much better players just by being in the PL. Have a look at their current turnover compared to some PL teams.

    Celtic 53.4m
    Wolves 64.6m
    NUFC 88.4m
    Bolton 67.7m
    Sunderld 79.4m
    Man U 280m?
    Spurs 163.4m

So at present they cannot even match the likes of Wolves or Bolton, that would change out of all recognition if they were a PL team with gates of 60,000. Only Arsenal & Man U have a similar level of support.

As a Spurs supporter I am sad to see the state of Scottish football when you consider the success Scots have brought to Spurs in the past.

1901 our first ever FA Cup win was with a Scottish manager John Cameron and no less than 5 Scots in the team. The fabulous 6o's team included Scots, Dave Mackay, John White, Bill Brown and Alan Gilzean. In more recent times we have had Scots like Alfie Conn, Steve Archibald & Alan Brazil.

The great Liverpool, Man U, and Leeds teams all included many Scots take all this into account and maybe you will understand why there is no gloating from me at the decline north of the border.

Am I correct in thinking that everytime we have won a major honour, we have always had a Scotsman in our team ??

Is that the case Spurcat? I wouldn't be surprised. Maybe THFC6061 can answer that one.

Very good post, I actually live in Scotland, but despise both the old firm, mainly for the whole religious thing, people go about slagging of protestants and Catholics and have no clue what they're talking about, the just say it because, well that's the way it has always been. To be fair it is much more prevalent in the south west of Scotland, I'm actually from further north and it's not really mentioned up here that much, but the whole of Scotland seems to get tarred with the same brush.

With regards to the old firm joining England, I think it would be unlikely to happen, I would only happen if the EPL tv rating started to dwindle, and sky wanted to do something radical to increase viewing numbers, but that's not a problem at the moment as it is the best watched league in the world. I'm not even sure if celtic and rangers would want to join the league, they both seem to love the drama of being the big two teams, if the old firm derby was deciding who would finish 6th or 7th in the league, im not sure either club or their fans would be that keen.

Im not even sure the media up here would be that keen on it, despite them banging on about it for years, one of the well know newspapers up here has had its front page about the rangers crisis almost every day, even when there were huge world events, such as that shooting in France, it has not made the front page.

Given that would cause Jose Mourinho to turn purple, throw an epic tantrum, then explode in a shower of blood and organs and paranoia, I am all for Barca winning La Liga.

I don't know about every time, but Mackay & John White were an integral part of the double team.
