No fat on Mason and I've seen more meat on a jockey's whip, but he's there for every game (thank God). Miller crocked today but he's taken some stick this season from defenders and he's just bounced back for more. Rudy? Just unlucky or injury prone? Like the guy, and his attitude comes across as being A1, but how many times is that he's been crocked? His game has suffered as a result and I've never been convinced that he's started a game this season or even come on as sub in a fully fit condition. He has the potential to offer a lot with his size and physical presence up front, but all to often looks a bit slow out of the blocks even for a big man. Time will tell I suppose, but whilst he appears to be so fragile, we'll not find out. Haven't heard officially what happened to him today - let's hope it's just precautionary.
You're right about Mason though I think he's working on bulking up and it sounded like Miller was well and truly assaulted today... be interesting to see the highlights. As for Rudy... I think a bit of both tbh. His injuries seemed to have been pretty consistent too...play a few, crocked, miss a few....different injuries too which is strange hence prone and unlucky. Physically, the Championship is a step up from the French League and I dont think he was ready for the difference and with the games coming thick and fast, because of his injuries, he hasn't had regular full training sessions to build himself up/adapt (??) Maybe after a Summer in the gym we'll see a different Rudy next year....maybe.
He's raw and gives us something different but the number of hamstings he's had worries me. Agree sparkey that his attitude is as good as it comes. Just like Jay! You could imagine him limping around being a pain for the opposition when he could barely stand. As for Mason, he's built like a racing snake and that is unlikely to change. He has a sharp brain and if they keep workig on that he won't need the brawn.
Mason - buy of the season for the club - maybe even for the Championship.......Hang on a minute, I wonder how he'll do in the Prem next year.... Rudy - work in progress agreed. Probably a season too early for him to be thrust in at the deep end at Champ level.
according to Malky he fell from a "great height" and landed on his hip and twisted it. Both Rudy and Miller being assessed tomorrow.
Mason seems a bit more wirey and being light tends to bounce. Rudy probably needs to bulk up more as he has a big frame. Send him down to the blues to work out with Warburton for a couple of months, THEN he'd be a handful!
I'm with the general view here, Rudy needs a summer to bulk up he's far too fragile and delicate for the championship. Mason is without doubt the buy of the season, hope he's on a long contract.
However Gang, do we think Rudy is any good ? The verdict is out for me at the moment as we dont see enough of him. I think Super Eddie Johnson scored more than Rudy so Yes..erm Verdict out for me.
Agree Ronny. He is 24, so he should be starting to reach his potential. I think we will need to see how he shapes up next season before making a judgement.
Did not think he was that old, thought he was 20/21, he'll be 24 on October 10. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudy_Gestede
With Rudy, you have to ask the question as to why he was a free agent. Has he had a lot of injuries in the past with his previous club losing patience? I'd give him another season. Good player to have on the bench and throw on when you need to shake things up.
Can't see anything to clarify that. He's played as many games this season as he has for the previous 3, albeit most off the bench. As you mentioned elsewher though Sparkey, no doubting his attitude! There might be something physiological causing his problems. Had a mate I played rugby with who kept breaking down with hamstring injuries. Turned out one leg was lightly shorter than the other. As a result when he sprinted, he tried to stride longer on one leg to compensate which put strain on his one hamstring. Once diagnosed, a riser in his one boot solved the problem.
Talking about a player who looks fragile but obviously isn't, just watched Joe's goal at Boro yesterday on CC Player - what a cool finish that was. This lad is going to be tough to hold onto if the big boys come sniffing, and I don't reckon that will be long from what I've seen of his progression.
i dont think gestede is good enough personally, i think we'll buy 2/3 strikers in the summer, we need the option of going 442 in certain games, and currently we dont really have the players to do that...
The answer to the question is 'yes' - Rudy was injured a lot last season, hence he was available 'cheap'.
Remote - just found a reference to Rudy's contract - seems like he's with us until 30th June 2014. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/rudy-gestede/profil/spieler_39908.html
Given his injury list with us and previous club how can't Malkys sports science technique isolate the reason why he seems so injury prone, especially as it always seems, unless I am mistaken, to be a hamstring. His performances are not great but if this is because carrying an injury is it likely he'll ever perform well enough to warrant a new contract?
